Title: Mephisto Canyon
Post by: fleetwood on September 08, 2014, 02:11:59 PM
A place to make a detour on your trek.

Just Terragen procedural terrain with plants from xfrog, Klas, Mr. Lampost

Detour?? Seems to me the best trekking place.
Like those monumental rocks man :D

Monumental indeed. Great sky also. But the strata are a bit uniform. Why not differentiate the strata into several kinds of strata, depending on height. So under a certain height you might have rougher strata, higher up denser and more subtle.... change in color as well, maybe.

Very nice. I agree about of some color variance. Perhaps some reddish/brown, but keep to subtle - not a complete change.

Thanks for the comments.
My main goal in this render was color variation to be correlated to the strata, and to avoid a "red rock canyon" look which I'm kind of tired of,  but obviously I made the variations too faint to be noticed easily. I'll render a new one with slightly more saturation in the layers and try to vary the strata as suggested.

This is the same render with saturation of the color layers boosted 4x to show where they are.

Thanks for posting where the color variation resides. BTW, I think FrankB posted a clip file that can effect strata variation some years ago. Search it here in the forum. It works pretty well.

Another - not done yet but a little closer to what I want.

There are 2 things I'd change; lower POV so you get something striking in the foreground, to create more depth, and less haze in the front area, on the whole it's a bit dull as a consequence.

Last one - lower point of view.

When in doubt, add fog and sunset  ;)

Loved this.  A bit like staring down into the vastness of grand canyon, Difficult to achieve on the small canvas of a computer screen, but successfully shown here. Great sky too to top it off.

rat.

Winning! I think only those bright green plants look a little *too* bright and out of place. Like they have very high transparency or perhaps even a slight luminosity.
