Title: Fancy Pansy
Post by: Marty on October 21, 2014, 05:08:47 PM
Just a little DoF Terragen-image of a pansy flower in some grass. Any tricks to smooth out some angles when it comes to tgo (or obj) plants? If not: Is there some other software you can do it quickly in? PoseRay etc ?

Not bad at all. Angles in models are going to be down to the limited resolution (geometric detail) of the model, most likely. Not much TG can do about that, you'd need to improve it in a modeling app, ideally the source app that created the model.

Sometimes the subdivision in PoseRay (in the Groups Tab) helps, though as with all subdivision sometimes all the geometry shrinks away from adjacent members, not good, but worth a try. Have never done sub d with veg but it has smoothed out a couple of lower res autos I got from Free 3D Models.

Worked perfectly bobbystahr: Look at the example image: Two of the same plant: The arc above is before I did your tip on PoseRay: The one just under is after :D And it was easy and quick to do :D Great to do with plants for close ups, but maybe not on them you use on a population futher away (memory). This is just fantastic! :D Thanks bobbystahr!

Top image? Yes, many grass-populations with instances put close to each other. I put the flower close to the edge of this "population-system" for more clear view for the camera. DoF increases the reality-effect very for plant close-ups and other types of close-ups. The flower (with everything) is not great, but I was not in the mood to put in another one.

Wow that worked out great! Too bad the file size tends to balloon when you do that (subdivide), but I have to remember this. I think some of those Tree Sketch trees could use that treatment.
