Title: Stratusum
Post by: AP on October 23, 2014, 09:38:16 PM
Finished this some time back. Just now reminded myself to upload it. I was trying to challenge myself to do tilted strata within a very hazy and hot arid environment with a mix of grassy vegetation. The object is something I put together within Terragen but as to what it is... maybe a crossroads or warning.

I really like that form in the back there. Would love to see some small versions of that idea too. Sorta maybe house sized or smaller in the foreground area.

I really like the rough and dry mood. You can almost smell the air. Only crit is that the vegetation looks too regular. Each instance points exactly 90° up in the air. Maybe you could tilt them randomly or even use another plant model with more curvatures?

The hill in the center?

I considered tilting the grass slightly. Certainly doable.

I like the muted colors and hazy day effect.

I believe the foreground object is a Medieval torture device. Most likely a prisoner "sitting" post from the time of Vlad the Impaler.
Yet it could be a very bad early prototype holder for enormous paper towels.  :)

Wonderful dusty, dry feel. the rock formations in the background are excellent.

Beautiful work Chris. I agree about a mixed orientation of the dry vegetation. Maybe a slight variation in their color as well?

It is possible that it is a device of evil.  ;)  I think the initial idea was a hanging cage but then I thought it might have been to obvious, lack of mystery.

I am working on the orientation but I thought I mixed the colors so I have to look into that again.

Updated but the alterations may be too faint?
