Title: subdiv cache
Post by: Anthony Appleyard on December 18, 2014, 09:00:10 AM
In Terragen 3.2 , how to change the "subdiv cache" size? That wiki-type online help does not tell me.

Just to reiterate, we don't recommend changing the subdiv cache size unless you get a warning that its size is too small. The "ideal" size is about 100MB per render thread.

So on a quadcore Intel i3-2370M PC with Win8.1 x64 and 4 GB you would use 4x100 = 400 subdiv cache? Because the default is on 800 I think.
And then I can barely use my laptop for other software on 800.

I would recommend you upgrade your RAM on that kind of machine, 4GB is pretty minimal for a modern system with Win 7 or 8, especially when rendering (with any software, not just Terragen). But yes, you can run fine with a 400MB cache since your CPU only has 2 cores and 4 threads.
