Obviously, if anyone has any suggests...
Oh I like this very much! Quite different than what we mostly see. I wonder about some of the light areas of the sky, some look like stars (on the upper-right), others look like thicker clouds (thicker than the mist on the background mountains), like in the middle-upper-left. Those two areas are a little distracting to me, given the smooth gradients and blending of things in the rest of the image. But overall I really like it.

And thus ends the 7 year lull of Planetside not commenting on my image postings. ;) I must have turned a corner. ;D
Thanks, Oshyan, now that you mention it, it is a little ambiguous. This is a cropped image and in the non-crop there is more contrast at the top where it evens out where its not so clear at the mid-point. I'll try to darken the clouds some.
It looks nice. Curious about the next iteration.
like it.
My only suggestion is more of a curiosity. I wonder if rather than solid silhouettes, you could also render the same image lit to see some more detail (bark and stuff) and then overlay the new one over the OP, and see if you get an even more etherial look. May create more eye candy.
Like it just the way it is, just curious about what other possibilities could be with such a nice starting place for variations.
I like this too, it has a certain Asian feel. My suggestion would be to use the stars more sparingly, like in Martin's (Dandel0's) file, and hit seed until they're in the left portion of the sky. And maybe you can add a little displacement to the tree trunk, you can see it's not very high poly. Though the branches are great. What if you mesh displace the trunk, add displacement and render without RT?
Yes, now that I contemplate it more, I think my issue with the stars is that due to the haze you would be unlikely to see such star clusters and other more subtle things. Only the brightest, sparse stars would shine through, and they themselves would ideally have a slight glow about them. Not sure if you could achieve that, but it would be very cool...

Badger: This mirrors my own curiosity. My initial tests to get this lighting were not intended to give such a silhouetted appearance and I have tried to get better results than I have. I will try again. The lighting is...a little tricky, as it is reflected ambient light from the sun coming from the other side of the planet. And what a champ for Terragen to calculate it out for me!
Dune: I might try a different way to use stars. Although, this is a fantasy world. I'm allowed a little leeway.
Something near like here?

Some lighting effects like in these images I mean. Not the images them selves.
Very nice one. I like it a lot! :)
Actually love the darkness and mood of this one...Excellent !

great scene, nice and moody!
well set up!
:)
These night scenes aren't always easy. I like what you've done here so far.
I like it as well, with similar reservations as Oshyan and Dune...got the Asian feel also, so if that was intentional...success on that.
This one's for Badger. It has increased ambient light. I really had to bury the needle on my GI to get this. I can still get more, but any stronger than this and it just starts looking like ambient occlusion. Not likely to change the stars; I kind of like them that way. I was really hoping someone could suggest something about object placement to take this thing to the finish line, but I guess it's good enough?
Not the first time someone has said there are Asian influences in my renders, although I'm a little surprised by it. My main influences are the Albertan and British landscapes, coupled with my own imagination to create a fantasy world.
Weeeell, I like the silhouette tree in the foreground buuuut. the low res of it I find disturbing. Maybe find a higher res tree or at least one with a natural feel to it that is in camera. The one you use is too angular for me. But I really like the image but for that.
Big improvement; but, I liked the lower right tree as it was in the first image (better framing out the scene).

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do something to the tree, at least correcting the geometry in post. I may also retexture.

Okay. But, outside of the lighting, the tree in the lower right hasn't changed.

Unless I'm having illusions, the tree on the lower right in the second image does not appear as much in the first image. I think the perspective line of conifers on the right looks better unbroken by this tree.
An illusion brought on by the silhouette, no doubt.

It's actually very difficult to find trees that look good up close like this, even among the xfrog trees, of which this was taken from. I call them "storybook trees" sort of like large English oak trees. If you, or anyone else, has a source where I could find one, that'd be great. I'm thinking of sculpting one, though, but the leaves wouldn't be near as good.

If you have this as an .obj you can do smoothing in PoseRay (from the Groups Tab) that is sometimes successful in a situation where you mainly need a part, because the smoothing sometimes shrinks the parts away from each other. Works great on grass blades for close ups and the like is what I've used it for mainly, and one Russian low poly auto that actually worked. I'll see what I have. I have one somewhere from Imagine3D days that has no leaves but a very hi poly trunk and branches mesh and it's a similar type of structure. I'll look.
I like the new version quite a bit, and I think somehow the stars work better in it, perhaps because the overall scene lightness implies night with a long exposure, where stars would be more visible anyway. I agree that the foreground tree needs more geometry density, other than that it's great. If you have the Xfrog software and the original .XFR for that tree, you can just go in and increase the subdivision. :)

Not having XFROG and guessing a lot of us don't I failed to think of that much better solution.
I don't have xfrog either, but I did get the .xfr when I bought the trees late last year. Oh, well, no more releasing free objects for me...I gots to monetize these things.

Yup, take them over to NWDA and get them puppies earning their keep. If I was making anything worth selling I'd be for sure doing that.
No luck on my Imagine3D tree yet but still 3 or 4 cd's to search.
Wondering if the Demo would work. Had it once and it ran out so no trying on my part but if you've never dl'd it maybe try that.
Can't put my fingers quite on it but it does have a kinda fairy tale-game type feel. I mean it in a good way. I like it :)

Thanks. That's what I was going for. The day-time version of this scene also exhibits the same kind of feel and that's even without any vegetation and it looks very different. To be released at a later date. Of course, you're on my face book, so you know a little more about this project than anyone else here (although not much more ;)).

There is a Terragen user group in Facebook. I think your aren't there?

Nope. Not yet... I'm not in a lot of groups on FB. But then, I'm not on FB much either. Since it's all tracked, recorded and data mined, I mostly only use it to post things for my work or to keep contact with family/friends. I'll check it out, though. I honestly didn't know there was a group for Terragen on there until this week. But I can't imagine it would be better than the forums.
I don't like Facebook so much too but there are more people who can see your work.

there tends to be more humour in the attitudes on FB...everyone seems less formal and more relaxed...that may just be me though.
