Title: Springtime in Alberta !
Post by: pclavett on December 22, 2014, 05:13:36 PM
Hi All !
Have had some time to tinker with Terragen and this was made from a terrain generated in WorldMachine and imported into TG3.
Again amazed by the stability of this software in handling all the displacement and instances (again millions of them !).
Have run this at 4000 x 2000 at Quality of 0,8 and AA of 8...and with the new Mac Pro was done in 1:50H....even with all the water ! Quite satisfied with the speed !
There are 7 varieties of vegetation....Dune's 3 Tundraheather bushes and 2 Larch species modified from Xfrogs and 2 Douglas Fir modified from Xfrogs.
Rest is pure Terragen...plus a bit of postmark with curves and sharpening in PS.
Thank for viewing and appreciate any comments !
Paul

Hi Kadri
I bought the high end 12 core model with 64GB RAM and the 2 big video cards....in fact was fortunate enough for my corporate account to buy it for me...perks !
Mind you most of my friend spend on ATV, Snowmobiles and the sort...so convinced my wife that this was a good investment and actually was less than one of those toys...and it can be used all year....and absolutely fantastic for rendering !
Have enjoyed this fully with World Machine running in Fusion (with absolutely no hangups) and Terragen of course running native on the Mac....Thanks Oshyan and Al. for remembering us Mac Addicts !
As I stated previously many time, the stability is amazing despite incredible parameters inserted in the chain. Planetside has to be commended for producing such a piece of software.
Also, not to be forgotten, is the fantastic community involved with Terragen and the absolutely awesome help given in the Forum for all involved with this software. You are all great !
Thanks !
Paul

A monster machine, indeed. 64GB RAM? Wow. Still, I am amazed at how quickly this got rendered. It's a beauty, you can feel the crispness of the air just by looking at the scene.

Another good one! The last image that I commented on from you is one of my favorites from this year, so I am biased against this image  ;)

Re Apple stuff
You think that, that 5k imac screen will be available as a monitor? mmmm 5k... Well for as much as the monitors cost it may make sense to buy the imac and plug that into the new tower  ;D Exspecially if you don't have to pay

Given that I actually live in Alberta, I can give this a "Very Close" representation.  My only sticking point would be that the mountains would continue on into the far background in the middle.  Still good, though.

Really liking this! Reminds me of our alpine lakes around here in the Pacific Northwest. Definitely like the shore and how the forests climb the slopes.

Sorry for the cold...here in New-Brunswick Canada, it is unseasonably warm and in fact raining....quite unusual for us....the climate is changing whatever the politicians say !
Well at least in Terragen we get to control the climate......and do whatever pleases us !
Happy Holidays to all !

Thanks Paul, same Bach at ya...We as well were above seasonal normals till this frigid morning...my body's in shock and won't go out side. Almanac predicts below normal from now till May for the prairies. For Atlantic areas it says Dec. 21-24 Rain, then sunny, cold, 25-31 Flurries...guess it's a bit warmer than flurries but this almanac is deadly accurate for here.
