Title: "St'ahrctic Station"
Post by: bobbystahr on January 09, 2015, 12:14:39 AM
Well as it won't stop snowing here I got into the spirit with the "St'ahrctic Station"

Clouds are the best part. The stones have some stretching somehow, probably having to do with displacement intersection.

Yes, those clouds are excellent, with some more work on the boulders you'll have a good 'un.

Heh heh heh , well the stretched stones are actually intentional  ;D. I've seen stones like that up near Churchill Manitoba in photos from a pal  and by pure luck while experimenting in the Terrain Tab I stuck a Fractal warp shader 01 after the Fakestone shader and was presented with Churchill Rocks.. I plan on going further with them in the future. Thanks for the input folks.

Looks good.
I think Ulco means the part where the stones are intersecting with the ground?

Oh I see, yeah I meant to go back and fix that...D'oh.

I should also mention the the lovely clouds are a tweak of clouds_storm_brewing_rc.tgc from either here or terragen.org freestuff. Having  a hard time eliminating that ground intersection, may have to post the .tgd to find a solution. I'll worry it a bit more before I resort to that.

Almost ready to cry "Uncle" on this....how the heck do I get rid of that stretch...where the FS meets the snow? I'll upload the .tgd if it's necessary but dong a test now.

I think I'd got it now. I had loaded 2 presets to take advantage of their distribution and changed the colours to snow colours but hadn't noticed the intersect on  a couple of child layers....new test is looking very promising as I added a snow layer with reflection for that Northern glitter....

Nice one Bobby. Agree, the clouds are very good; and, I know you will keep on with this one. I like snow in images; but, not in person.

Yeah, pretty cool. Just low quality right now. Look forward to more details and higher quality render!

So....I'm still stuck and have moved on from this, but I'd still like to know how to get rid of that Fakestone join stretch? Anyone got a solution...I'm totally out of ideas.

Simple, it's the fractal warp.

It sounds as if you'll continue it? Cool... I'd like to see it finished.

If you have an issue in a render, just disable one node at the time backwards, see where it changes, eh voila.

was trying that and no matter what I kept getting that stretch so being me I'm working around it with a 15 k x .5 k x 15 k cube that comes above that line. Being a displaceable cube it textures and displaces nicely so far.

But overall a bit disappointing that I wasn't actually able to solve the problem....sigh.

Well that didn't work, maybe it's wrong for me to do cold images when that's how it is outdoors...I've put this away for a while and will no doubt come back to it when it's too hot to go outside....
