Title: Terragen in VR film: "Evolution of Verse"
Post by: Matt on February 12, 2015, 03:47:49 AM
Recently I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Digital Domain and director Chris Milk on a virtual reality film called "Evolution of Verse". It was shown at this year's Sundance festival.

The environment, of course, was rendered with Terragen!

(The first screen shot is very out of date, taken only 2 weeks into the project.)

There is an app you can download for some smartphones:

I'm not sure what devices are currently supported. A VR headset would be the best way to view it. But even if you only have a smartphone, please take it for a spin (both literally and figuratively) :)

AWESOME Matt!

There are lots of ways to view that are pretty cheap. This is the most costly of the cheap ways that I have seen, but it is also the nicest: http://www.kolor.com/store/360-degree-video/casque-de-realite-virtuelle-homido.html?___store=eng&___from_store=default

Looks like the Android version of VRSE requires v4.4 or better. It won't run on my phone but should be ok for my Galaxy Tab. Will check later today.

No go on iPhone5 either. 5s, is the oldest model that will work I guess. :-[

Hi Matt,

Congrats on the achievement :)
I will check it out on my iPad, because my cell screen is too small for this imo :)

The Engadget article shows an interesting aspect to me.
If I search the article for 'Matt' 'Planetside' or 'Terragen' I get zero results.
Yet, Digital Domain is mentioned.
This is the most recent example of TG work not being mentioned while I think it should or deserves that.

Engadget is a huge website (top 300 world-wide) and VRSE has been accessed >10k times already.
Isn't this self-depriving or doing yourselves short here?
A lot of people could have been reached.

I hope you understand and can see the positive spirit of this post, that I wish the best for PS and TG!, but I can't ignore this repeating occurence :)

Cheers,
Martin
