Title: Morning at the Khalla region
Post by: mesocyclone on March 29, 2015, 12:03:49 PM
Hello guys!

Made this to illustrate a location on my RPG's next session. Though it came out better than I expected!

Xfrog and Walli's trees, inbuilt grass clumps, free house model from the internet.

Slight levels, auto color and constrast in PS.

Any criticisms welcome!

Nice image.  I'd like to see a little bit of atmospheric haze. It looks a bit too clear for the scale of the scene.

looks like it is meant to be in stereo. I would really like to see it in .tiff
Looks great, but I think jpg is stealing from you.
Anyway I like it.

Interesting to know that you make games.

@TheBadger
Yes, I'm DMing a RPG campaign for like 3 years! And TG helped me a lot of times in describing some landscapes to my players...  ;)

I'll add some little haze for the next iteration, and I'm thinking of removing the clouds...
Also, I'll attach the .tiff file.

Any C&C welcome!

Very nice and agree the haze will be welcome. Those clouds looked to me like snow so I'd agree they need to go...or be way softer and more transparent....

Here is iteration 2.

Removed the clouds and tweaked post-processing a bit.

Just added a little haze density, because bluesky density pretty turned *everything* too much blue from this distance...
Also, I've found I couldn't push too much on haze because it seemed to me to be "stealing" some detail...

Well, hope you like it and C&C still welcome  ;)

PS.: errr... the forum won't allow me to upload the .tiff, so here's the .png

The strange thing is that at first glance I thought it was a close up of a few meters wide. Until I recognized trees and a house. The haze definitely improved that, but more would even be better, or a local cloud hanging behind that rock outcrop; that would really have that rock stand out.
So I also first thought the clouds were tiny patches of snow.
How about a lower POV so you have the rock against sky? Or more wideangle if you care to keep the front view downward.

I like the 2nd variation. The 3rd is good too, but color is better in image 2.
3 has a bit of a cast to it I think.
Both 2 and 3 beat 1 IMO.

I would raise the camera a bit, so the treetops on the outcrop are in. And I would make the clouds there softer and thinner. But you're getting there, IMO. Looks good. Oh,a nd by the way; why not post a jpg. These png's are large and very slow to load at this end of the globe (or it's my connection). JPG's load much faster, and you won't see any quality difference.

Less postwork contrast, camera slightly raised and widened, clouds less dense.

.jpg attached :)

I'm liking this now, but one query. Is the the house a dead one ore a whole one? If it's habitable maybe some paths to and fro...I'm always adding paths I know but ......
