Two versions of something I made yesterday.
Thought they were paintings.............. :o ;D
Very nice. I "expected" to see some tulips around :D
This is a very nice historical reconstitution !
Wonderful! I prefer the second one - softer and warmer somehow.
2nd one as well and I absolutely love that bridge. Do I correctly suspect a bit of inspiration from the Antoine thread?
You are a suspicious character, Bobby, but also right ;) I'll make another one, as I just learned something while making this one. This forum is full of inspiration.
I like the second one. The subtle changes make a difference. ;)
Man, I wish we could animate objects in TG. :-[ I mean really do it.

Heh heh hehm more observant than suspicious...I take all my inspiration from what I see so I expect most folks are inspired by good stuff when they see it...I just really like the way you've used the inspiration Ulco. Now I want to build one as well, hee hee hee...Guess I should get cracking on learning Wings3D as it's the only modeler I have now.
And further to the bridge subject, this one resonates with the first all iron bridge ever built in Britian...maybe a bit mor inspiration there Ulco?

Thanks Bobby. They're nice, but atm I am busy building 14th century ships for my next 20x4m wall. Nice work, but a lot of it. At least I got the hang of texturing now, and making billowing sails.

Gotcha Ulco, but I am ever the tempter/enabler....hee hee hee..them there sails work really well btw,,,just the right amount of crud on em as well.
Like them both, but favor the second as well.
This was a nice place to test my first boats. Dumped the bridge. The wake is horrible, but another one is brewing...
The clarity of this image of this image really stands out nicely. The boats are very good.
Nice boat yard Ulco...and you've nailed texturing all right..I find the hard part with boats is to get the shiplap to tile correctly but have found PoseRay quite useful with the Cubic flavour of U/V mapping they have. A lot depends on how the model was built I've found.
Better wake here. When rendering bigger, there's lots of issues obvious in both terrain and models. But it takes time to build these models, so I perhaps consider them good enough for my means too soon. But I can always come back to them later, if it's needed for more detailed stuff (adding stuff like rings on the sails, better tackle and pulleys, cargo, boatmen). Just too much to do in too little time ::) And I didn't expand the pops to cover the right area, so it's far from perfect. Enjoy anyway.
Thats so beautiful!
Always when you say "far from perfect" you have already produced a piece of art.

O K, I gotta ask..In these last few images there's a 1/2 boat hull sitting like an out house on the shore. What' the story with that? Nice one btw, and agree with DocCharly
Try a search for paintings by Avercamp and you'll notice that they used old boats to make shelters in 15th century. Shelters for fishing perhaps, don't know really.

Cool, I'll do that and you are likely correct on their usage...a good use for a dead boat.
Oooh cool stuff! Ice fishing seems as big in Holland as Winnipeg. We get mainly Pickerel...not complaining...great white fresh water fish.
Hee hee hee, they use barrels as well...gave me a chuckle that did.
Great Stuff. I love these pastoral scenes. I hope you get time to finish the details.
Your refinements are evident as they make the scene very much better.
To me the boats seem to be too long to have single piece planks.
And cuts are easy, even with uv-ed model parts. No extra work.
And I figured out what was bugging me...why does the near boat have the tiller on the prow...seems to be ...backing up?
Thanks Jochen, I'll try that. You're right of course.
And tiller on prow? It's on the back end of the ship, just like in the left ship.

O K, must be an optional delusion on my part, to me the 'front' end appears square and it must be the camera angle that doesn't reveal the prow point to me....
Look at the sails Bobby. ;)
Extraordinary. You sure worked your magic on the water. It's got to be nice to be able to pose and texture your own characters.
Thanks guys. They're daz people. Good enough for my purpose, enough work as is to get them the way I need them, especially their clothing. Yesterday I made a 'breaking wheel', a nice prisoner will be featured on top of it, chained and let to enjoy his last days admiring the views. Really nice to make the poor guy as horrible looking as possible 8) I'll show you later.
I only don't know what it is that they had on that upper piece of wood, I made it some sort of noose, but it's probably something else.... a piece of food to torture the guy even more?
Oh so deliciously morbid, Dune!
I keep staring at the previous render of the boats on the river. I'm amazed, truly. The bit that sticks out to me the most is the ripples coming off the boats.

I suspect it is an iron bar used to break the arms and legs above and below the elbows and knees before they threaded the victim through the spokes.
I guess they had pretty gruesome methods back then. I read that the 13th century was especially harsh in that respect.
Warning: these images are not for the fainthearted and children under 8 years old! ;)
looks frightening!
Poor guy must have had a horrible weekend! :o
Very good but one suggestion; maybe break the arms and legs as by the time they were put up to have stuff thrown at them they'd been "broken" on the wheel first before it was hoisted up the pole. Scary real....glad I live now with only water-boarding...I snow board in the winter so I can handle it, hee hee hee
Nice modeling-posing Ulco.
Ulco!
Damn that's mean!
Can we have a crow like Brueghel's ?? :)

:-/
:))
You know, I was just thinking about a crow/raven. Broken limbs is interesting as well, I have to see whether I can do that ;)
And the skin still looks a bit too healthy. Some more blue, violet and gray
and maybe a tad green or so.
Btw. as for the clothes, have you ever had a look at Marvellous Designer?
Payware, but maybe worth it,if you have enough people to clothe.
That's nasty, but probably realistic.
I'll stick to landscape renders...
Don't forget the rock seller's stall! ;)

LOL and the rotten tomato vendor
Thanks for your thoughts, Jochen. I know of them, but never checked them out properly. Colors are a good idea. But, I merely made this as a 'fun' sideprop; perhaps the museum doesn't want to show the gruesome past of their town ;) I'll probably hide it inconspiciously somewhere. So not vendors; though it would make a great scene.
Making a crow right now. I might even try to rig it, but I've never done that, so that's probably for some time in the future.
Looking at this makes me feel like I have pains in my limbs ...ouch!
