Title: How to change Render DPI?
Post by: ricguimm on April 26, 2015, 03:27:20 PM
Hey folks, I've recently began using Terragen and am amazed by it (I used to work on World Machine). Renders are awesome, but I was wondering, where do I change the DPI settings, for printing? Thanks everyone!

DPI is just a flag or piece of "meta data" in an image, it is not affected by (nor does it affect) the rendering process. If you have a specific print size and DPI in mind, simply multiply your intended DPI by your print size to obtain the needed image dimension in pixels, then use those for your render settings. Once the image is rendered and saved, you can adjust its DPI freely in any image editor. Basically, DPI really only matters when you print something.

Yes, you just have to do the math for your intended print size and resolution.  Ex: 20" x 16" @ 150dpi = 3000 px x 2400 px

If you have to, you can set the actual resolution in the program you use for printing.  But in most cases, shouldn't be necessary.
