Title: The River Valley
Post by: Upon Infinity on May 12, 2015, 02:11:22 AM
You know what to do...    ;)

Are the lines in the image intended, or is my monitor playing tricks on me?
Otherwise it looks pretty nice! Wish I myself knew how to do the winding river thingybob though. ???

Nah, my detail settings weren't high enough for this render.

The river is a painted shader.

You are gonna do this with higher settings tho, right? Great scene aside from those lines....

@ Emmeline: check this http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,18995.15.html (http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,18995.15.html) and search for 'warped simple shape and/or river'

@UI: Really nice, but you have to get rid of the blocky atmo!

Yeah, not much seems to be working to get rid of the lines.  Even detail at 0.8 AA at 5.  GI detail at 5...

I'm really liking the look you're achieving with these scenes. Heavily atmospheric, lush, evocative, mysterious.

The blocky render artifacts are likely caused by cloud acceleration settings. They appear to be coming from the misty layer (though I don't know how many layers you have), so check the settings there. If it's set to "Optimal" Acceleration, try Conservative, and if you still get artifacts, then set it to None (Highest Detail). That should resolve the issue, though at the cost of higher render times.

Thanks, Oshyan.  Gives me encouragement to keep going.   And you'll be glad to know, there's a lot more in the pipeline.  And that I'm saving the best for last...   ;)

The optimization trick helps, but there are still a few lines in the image.  I've gotten these before, but they usually disappear once quality settings are increased.

Oh yeah man, keep going with this one for sure!

I'll have to think this one through carefully with the node network and do some tinkering - thank you very much for explaining it though! I appreciate it very much. :)

So even with cloud acceleration set to "none"? Try it for all cloud layers if you haven't already.

All layers really ups the render time, doesn't it?   :o  Fixed the problem, though.

Yep, lovely image. Was the artifact improved by adjusting it for one of the layers previously, but not removed entirely? Perhaps it was the wrong layer you adjusted in the first place?

It may have been the wrong layer, but there is only one layer of clouds beneath the camera, so it was impossible to mistake it.  I think it was improved by more than half the first time (although I also adjusted other quality settings) and then gone completely when I switched all layers over.

More and more I like it.
Remembers me to a game I saw as "let's play" on youtube. Perhaps you have heard about "Ori and the blind forest"
