Title: Field
Post by: Cocateho on May 27, 2015, 09:28:27 AM
For some reason I've been focused on fields/meadows lately. Maybe I need some new/better suited objects, can't seem to quite get what I'm after. Still having fun playing though. Here's a crop with the terrain, its missing about the top 3rd but I've already got the clouds pretty much how I want.

Very nice start. I really like the field/colors and the trees behind.
For some unknown reason I do not feel that the mountain is done at the back.

I like it. But I agree with Archonforest. There is too less depth. The mountains should be a bit hazier and the plants in the foreground could use some DOF. Maybe this helps.

It's got good foliage distribution.

I agree about the background. I like it and I don't but I've been at a loss as to what I need to fix exactly. I'll try your suggestions, see how it goes.

Nice one. A little tweaking may help to make it more like a photo 8)

A little update. still tweaking a bit, especially the DoF.

Not sure to call this final yet or not, the DoF turned out a bit different with the higher quality than I thought. Hmm. Still, happy with most of it.

Much better. The haze looks good now.
I can't see any DOF. Is it gone? A good amount of DOF for the foreground plants right in front of the camera would improve it significantly imho.

Its very slight, I think I adjusted the distance too close, but It looked like it was ok in a low quality render. I can't remember what values I had so I'm tinkering.

I can see it, I can see it!  ;D

Nice image!

Been in a mood to rework old projects apparently. Here's a little update, changed some trees and the rock faces. Still tinkering a bit if anyone has suggestions?

As Hannes mentioned a goodly amount of DOF on the very close plants would make this pop...5 stars on composition and texturing....

Another pass with some more tweaks.

Bobby- the final will have DoF I just turned it off for the sake of testing.

Smart move time wise...love what you're doing to those mountains...carry on....

So I tweaked a bit too hard... screwed a few things up... I need to go back and figured out what the #$!! I did to the mountains. And somehow the leafy plant in front now has extremely dark shadows on it :/ and not sure what went wrong there either... buuuuut at least the treeline looks good?  ;D might go back and put one or two red trees in there as well.

I think the flowering grass part on the front could need some color variety. If you use a distance shader it's easy to replace distant mountains by whatever you want (like a alpine fractal) without altering the front area. But the treeline looks good to me.

Ended up having to redo a lot of things, including the treeline :( but the mountains I think I like better now, I'll have to smooth out the snow a bit but otherwise I think it looks better. C&C welcome.

Very nice!

With the smoothing of the snow I think you're right.
In my eyes the snow could be a bit brighter and a bit more coverage breakup on the middle mountain?

I agree, I like the mountains better once you rescued them...When I have mishaps like that I usually can't get it back...well saving more often seems to help which I do every so often now and not just a rendertime.

I think I'm almost ready for a final... and actually I have two I'd like to do, one with the original POV and another portrait shot of the needle-like mountain.

The cloud/fog on the mountain on the left ic a very good idea.
Coverage of the snow is much better.

That last one is super! I really like the mountain as well. Great work.

If you don't mind I take the "Alpine fields.jpg" in portrait format as final - it's my favorite  ;) :)

Different but great perspective. I like this a lot. 8)

I agree with Nils. In the last version the grass versus treeline is very straight and hard. Which may be the idea, but therefore I like the cropped version better. Nevertheless, a great render.

Agree. just would like the two or so trees in the front to be moved a bit.

Haha so I guess it's unanimous, the portrait shot is better  :D I must admit I like it better myself, the limiting factor, to me anyway is the scope of the shot. I like wide angle, panoramic shots that show more of the environment... Just more stuff to look at. But the portrait I think is a bit more pleasant to look at and has better composition. I may do a higher quality render render of that one eventually.

It's supposed to be an old agricultural field that got a bit overgrown. It is a bit straight though. I wish I had added a little roll to the terrain there.

A barn may break it.

Yeah, an old broken down/derelict barn to one side with a hint of a fence in it's vicinity...but I'm a fan of the Alpine Meadow as well.
