Wanted to play with stones a little.
I suppose there won't be any scale issue :)
This is very cool Kadri. 8)
Great, I like it!
I could imagine only some clouds and perhaps darker blue of the sky - but nothing else to not disturb the impression.
Thanks guys.
The sky was much bluer and i tried some clouds too.
Subjective of course but the rocks are so busy the image feels too heavy(?) with those things added to me.
I was going to make the sky nearly full white even.
Killer displacements and shaders
Thanks Danny.
Thanks.
I am still surprised sometimes the way Terragen works.
There are many problems because of the excessive displacement but even so close to the rocks it holds up rather nice.
It does have kind of a painted look to me.
Maybe.
That rock looks awesome! Maybe an overcast/thunderstorm sky would fit? To keep the lighting on the rocks you could use some localised cloud layers to make them appear only in the background.

... Maybe an overcast/thunderstorm sky would fit? ...
Thanks. Tried exactly the same Hannes :)
But i wasn't satisfied with the clouds. Might try later ones again maybe.
Still working on the animation. This was kinda a doddle because of the lately upcoming Mars images here around.
Very neat rocks. I wouldn't too much to distract either, perhaps a tiny clump of dry grass somewhere, just to give it some life. And maybe you need a little more GI to illuminate the dark shadows under the crevices? It wasn't until the crop that I spotted the hammer.... I was already wondering what the title was all about.
Thanks.
Because it was in the beginning a Mars kinda planet i haven't thought about vegetation.Might play with it later.
I made the shadows knowingly darker Ulco but i am not sure which one is better.
I thought the picture needed more contrast over the rocks with some plain parts.
I will try to post another one to see what you guys think about it.
A bluer sky test should be done too :)
If i can get it the way i want , maybe this could be a basis for an asteroid object too.
Immidiately thought of that hammer, but couldn't spot it in the first pic, too.
Maybe making it a bit more prominent would help.
Anyway, nice idea to make a pic of that hammer. 8) ;D
:D
Rendering another one with clouds and some grass.
Looks promising in low quality. Not sure about the grass.
I changed the color of the rocks too.
But the render will take a long time.

Mee too, thought it was some sort of local name for an outcropping of rock. re: the hammer Kadri, seems to be sunk into the rock a bit.
It isn't sunk but because i tried to make the shadow kinda like some of the hammers parts are further away from the rock then others it kinda looks so.
The shadow is too black probably. In the new render i will work a little more on it :)
The detail in the rock is special; good work.
Thanks.
I hope the newer one will look better as a whole. Still only at half after 12 hours rendering.
Why does it take so long?
Because of the displacements i wanted to see them in the best way i can and how they will look Ulco.
5000x2083, Detail 1, AA 10 etc. You get the picture. Mostly not needed but it is only a still image.
Wow, that is high. No wonder it takes long.
Yep and the first time i use such high settings :)
I trowed the standard grass object in it. Should have used another one. I will have to do much cleanup in post.
Do you know a good grass object that would be suited for this scene Ulco?
Don't want to make one by myself.
Tried to upload one, but it's too heavy. PM me with an email addres, will you?

There is an interesting free .tgo grass included in the Presets Pack from planetside Kadri.
Thanks. I always forget about those :)
Here is the last render. Took one day to render.
I cut a hell of a grass out of the picture. So much that i had to nearly call this a painting if it was a little more of them :)
Not sure about the hammer. This time it looks too pronounced?
Honestly i actually like this one. Nearly no postwork except that gardening part.
I just want to try one last thing. Curious how it would look with a little water?
Awesome, Kadri!!! The sky is perfect. Maybe a bit too saturated.
If you'd ask me, I'd leave out the grass completely. I like this barren landscape as it is. One thing that could work imho is some mossy yellowish green patches here and there. Or lichen? Made by some broken up surface layer with slope constraint and a subtle very small displacement? Just a thought...
Thanks Hannes. If i haven't played with the atmo settings (and that is absolutely possible :) ) the colors are nearly all as it is by default.
There are so many possibilities as you said Hannes. I thought about making the hills greener, adding trees etc too.
But i want to work on the animation. There is only so much time. Probably the water will be the last version if it looks any good of course.
I like the veg myself but maybe less and there is that Walli lichen package in File Sharing that's fun as well to intersperse. Yup on the sky for consensus.
The combination of colors you have on the rock are striking, I like it the way it is.
Thanks guys.
I tried it with water in low res but i don't think that it adds anything special. So this might be the final.
It's almost HDR, awesome. These grasses are no good, though. I also think less displaced small detail won't be bad, and shortens render time. But with this sky, which is really nice, it gets very 'busy'.
Thanks Ulco. The one with your grass is still rendering. Thank you for that :)
I am not sure how to use plants for this image.I think this one is probably better without any or with very few.
One render without clouds is one i will try too.
Great work there!!
Thanks.
Ulco i think with the sun at this angle as it is right now, the grass on the right side lacks shadow.
The left side is kinda OK.
Only contrast postwork on this one (some colors do look different because i accidentally changed them).
Another render is going on on the other computer where the sun is much closer to the ground and on the left side.
The ground with grass and the rock itself should look better hopefully that way. The grass population is the same.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure about this grass. It's very dark and looks a bit like underwater vegetation. And I think it doesn't really fit to the landscape since it looks very "juicy". Shouldn't there be some more dry vegetation? Some sort of desert bush stuff for example?
Wish i was more confident what to use too Hannes :)
Will see how the other one looks.

I wouldn't want to render a scene like this for example (from a vegetation standpoint). But it is a photo.
What about this?
http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,6997.msg74409.html#msg74409
I very often used this shrub for dry landscapes. Tipp: if you make the colors of some of the leaf shaders a bit more greenish, you'll get some nice color variation inside one bush.
Why not as i am still playing with this :)
Yeah, the grasses don't look good like this. They can be much lighter, and perhaps bigger, so they won't look so fluffy. They're actually supposed to be a lot bigger. And I would use them very scarcely, on one or two spots maybe. The bushes might indeed be better here.
I think you are right.
The last image did not look good from a color aspect. So i just played with it and got this.
Time to stop i think :D
There are render errors...perhaps of lower render settings.
I hope you don't mind, but in my very humble opinion the last version on page two is your best so far. It has some kind of magic, and I think this is gone in the following images.
Awesome colors and mood here Kadri! ;)
Thanks :)

I absolutely don't mind and agree 100% Hannes :)
For me the same as for Hannes.
What is so extremely interesting on that version on page 2 ist that you are free to imagine how big that formation is. I could imagine it's not much bigger than some hand full of stones as well as its a mountain. That's magic!
Yes and maybe because of that (what Hannes said) i have a hard time to think and make another version.
For now that one is the most i like as you too.
