Thought I'd try an object based image after the heads up from Hannes about the great free bread models available at themantissa.net.
There are 28 models and 3 populations in this image, and while I know TG isn't really designed for this sort of use, I think it works really well. I'll post separately in the open discussion area with some observations etc. when using large numbers of objects.
jug/pitcher from oyonale.com
and the bread knife from turbosquid .com
Blackberry and Dirt from Walli.
all the rest are my own, modeled in Wings 3d.
A lot of textures from Mayangs site.
Looks good. Especially for Terragen :)
Yes, tasty render! Especially the bread looks terrific.
Nice stilllife attempt.
The table model seems to have some problem, though.Particularly the beams
on the bottom (the ugly black parts).
Seeing a Wings screenshot of that might help finding the culprit and a solution.

Yeah, the table is a problem. I'm NOT a good modeler and still learning Wings 3d. The beams are a separate object and I can't make the image map b
e applied as cubic translation!. I really have a problem with UV mapping and need to spend some time on it. I could just shift them out of sight but the table then looks weired.
It's odd how the hint of something in the right place lets you minds eye translate it as real.
The solution for the beams is most likely to give them 'hard edges'
and maybe a few more polygons. But mainly hard edges.
Wow that's a fantastic show of Terragen Object support. This should literally be on the product page. Lol
Though I do have to say the color on the bread seems a bit strong.
Wow, must not look at images like this before supper. Anyway, very nicely done!
Food, a very nice subject. I have a problem with the cutting board, seems to be wood sides and a stone top, and I see the table stuff but j meyer is a Wings3D wiz so I'll let his comment rule..look forward to an update...
Thanks for the useful comments guys. Here's and updated version with 47 objects! and three pops.
All new objects by me except the corkscrew which is from http://artist-3d.com/.
Very tasty! I only think the knife sinks into the cutting board, and the knife in the plates has an end part of the handle sink into the plate. Apart from the table, the stuff on it looks terrific (especially the glasses and bottle...mmm).

I beg to differ Ulco...Looks to me like the knife on the cutting board is reflecting the cheese not sunk into the cutting board, and the one on the plate shows a shadow caused by the tip and the handle being on the raised portions of the plate...
I think bobbystahr is right. I can see the cheese in the knife's reflection.
And I'm hungy now...
Nice image!
yep, the breadknife is reflecting the cheese and the small knife (cheese knife" has a shadow underneath.
Another version is underway with some changes which might improve this.
I know about the reflection of the blade but I'm referring to the handle. You might be right, but I noticed here how the rounded end of the handle isn't to be seen on the front end where the blade goes into the handle. So it seems sunk. But it might be the (lack of) shadow, because of the sun's angle.
You're right about the small knife, I now see the shadow.
Final update:
Most comments made here have been addressed (I think!)
Just shows what you can do with terrain generating software!
Some 57 objects used and 10 pops.
Awesome, I really like this. The table is a bit of a cheap product, but that doesn't bother me. The knife on the plank looks much better now, not sunk. I like this plank very much too. Makes me hungry (and thirsty).
Yep,thumbs up,well done final!
Its a complex project! Great effort, good results.
Very good! I want to join this party. The wine is getting warm :)
Looks good.
fine tweaking on the cutting board, that was really bugging me....it's now a ***** image
Thanks for the kind comments guys and thanks to j meyer for the thread on using objects, very helpful!
Here's an updated Path traced oldie with plenty of objects and foliage.
A definite improvement I think. PT gives a more vibrant and clearer overall image.
Fantastic! The path tracer is indeed great for these kind of images.
Great works!
happy meal ;)
Nice that already poured wine, then cheers ....
In fact an excellent and wonderful update!
Would you mind to play around with the green glasses in the foreground? The reflection and/or the refraction seems a bit weird. Perhaps these glasses need a very small refraction and darker reflection tint? For my animations some times ago I stopped using reflection softness because of some strange results but in this still picture it could increase the realism of these glasses.
Great update!
Thanks for the positive comments folks. Here's a minor update with revamped glasses for DocCharly.
Though the other one was really great too, I like this version more. Thanks, Kevin :)
Yes, the glasses look a lot better now.
