Title: Somewhere in Appalachia
Post by: Cocateho on July 20, 2015, 02:11:26 PM
WIP I think there's  much more that can be done with this one...

Very nice already. Perhaps a large rock?

I like it! I am uncertain though if this is a fall scene or a spring scene. The red and gold trees make me think it is fall but the flowers in the field make me think spring.

Another iteration. increased the flower density, added some new veggies and tweaked colors. Forgot about the rock, that'll be in the  next one.

Stranded- it's a fall scene, and though flowers are typically thought of as being a springtime thing, a great many species also flower in late summer into fall, to bear winter fruit/seeds.

Great set up. Now you will go mad trying to make it perfect. At least you won't be alone in the crazy bin, there is lots of company for you here.

I like the meadow very much, but especially as it is fall, some dried/dead and bent or fallen grass leaves would enhance the scene. They're all just too much straight up.

Great enhancement here!

HD update, added/changed a few more things. Still feels like it needs a focal point though...

Perhaps a tiny (dilapadated) wood cabin in the left corner, where meadow meets wood, a bit hidden, just visible, some smoke whirling up perhaps...

Great clouds and nice improvement !

Dune- I actually had the thought to do that, even have a little path up to the front door but unfortunately I have no models like that  :-[

Something along these lines... I could still do a path, but the cabin I think would really make it feel complete.

Added a trail and some more trees on the mountain because it seemed kinda bare.

Well, the trail already does it, IMO. But I would keep the distant mountain/hilltop kind of bare, perhaps a few patches of trees only. You could (just for experimentation) also try adding a soft (50%) simple shape exactly on that mountain top, masking a surface shader before the compute terrain, where you set smoothing to minus 0-1, and add a crude (size of mountain top, but detail at 0.7-0.95) fractal warp as child. Or a ridged PF displaced up. See what happens. In principle you should get some 'Dolomite' like rocks.

Cocateho there are thousands of free objects around the net.Why you don't search for a cabin for example?
If you have problems to use objects with Terragen just do a search first here and then if you need help ask.
Nice progress on the scene.

Update with added trails and other small tweaks... also somehow one of my cloud layers got deleted so I made a new one... so if you're thinking the clouds are different you're not crazy (well, maybe...).

Dune - That sounds like it could be pretty cool I might have to test the concept by itself a little bit first to get a feel for what to do. I'm thinking I might make the top of that mountain a "bald" and put a surface layer or two with a little displacement to mimic grass. A bit like this [attach=2]

... Took that one myself, near Roan mountain straddling the TN/NC border, if anyone here likes a good hike.

Kadri - I actually did search without much luck. Found something I had hoped would work, not the best model but would've been ok at a distance but it didn't seem to want to behave in terragen...

Have you see this one?
Challenge #24: The Cabin

I haven't tried it but it looks usable. There might be better ones but i don't know.
Some of our friends here have used it in the past i think.

Nice scene. I like the path as it gives me somewhere to stand and a context for being there.

The path made it more real for sure. Nice.

Felt like I had mad it a bit over-sharp, so I softened it a bit. General opinion on which is better?

I prefer the former, sharper. This is too soft.

I personally prefer the new softer one.
