Anyone got any ideas?

Add a small scale strata and outcrops shader to some fake stones and break up the outcrops with another fractal through it's mask. That came off the top of my head but there may be other ways.

Well, I'm getting somewhere. We'll see if I can get it more like what I want.

A quick take on this. Honestly what i am seeing is what looks to be needed is a frequency filter added to the shader noise. At least a curve editor would do also. Other then that i can't make head or tails how this could be done.

Looks like a image mask or-and a displaced planet might do it.

Certainly, that gives me an idea. The image mask.

Try this. I am sure it can be applied to several ideas.
