A Quick WIP of Earth From Space using the Textures, cloud patterns and Bump maps from the NASA BLue marble web site.
Pretty cool. This is in TG2TP?
Yes. Its a WIP that I am working through using the resources at http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/BlueMarble/BlueMarble_monthlies.html
They have Hi-def images of earth including topography, clouds and lights at night. I am working on the clouds now to try and give them more detail.
Heres tjhe latest image with a new cloud pattern and settings plus ocean reflections. The current WIP has 4 suns to test reflectivity from various directions.
Nice work!
The only problem I see is the texture map is not high enough res, thus the detail is softened on the city lights and ground details.
Otherwise, this is pretty cool.
I agree that the resolution is not the best but it isn't for close up shots. The current render of was using a 10,000x5,000 image. The current lights image was 2,400x1,200. I have a higher res image (30,000x15,000) of the lights but it crashes TG2 right now. I am working on chopping it in 1/2 but my image processing program chokes on it as well. I need to try another program to work on it.
A good project and one I'm a bit familiar with myself. You may find this previous thread to be interesting: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=1175.0 I got a bit sidetracked and haven't worked on it much further, but I will definitely revisit it in the future. In the meantime keep it up!

I took a look at the thread. Looks like you guys are light years ahead of me. I will keep plugging away until I can get the results you are getting :)
For the his res images. I downsized the 21600x10800 to a 10000x5000 image and then cut it in half for 2 5000x5000 images. I then mapped then to each 1/2 of the globe and that seemed to work (Yes I am using Windows not a Mac)
