Title: Merge mix controller
Post by: Ashley on September 11, 2015, 05:36:22 PM
Hi,

I'm using a "simple shape node" to "mix control" a merge node.
Noticed when I set the "Choose by altitude" to "Highest" the mix controller has no effect. The merge is applied to the whole terrain.
When set to "All" the mask input works.

Is this suppose to work? or have I missed a step?

Thnx :-)

Hi Ashley,

Yes, that is how it's supposed to work. When in Highest or Lowest mode, the selection happens purely based on which surface is higher or lower, and the mix controller has no effect. If you want to use a mask to control the mix, but combine it with "Highest" mode, you might be able to do this by using another merge shader to do a simple "All" mix first, then using that as one of the inputs to the "Highest" merge shader.

No worries, I'll give that a go.
I can always bake it out (heightfield save) and merge normal with mask, so not a biggy.

Thx :-)

I'm learning about merge shader.
01. Is "mix controller" simply a mask feature?
I made a sample, but within the scope of "Simple shape shader 01", "Circle 01" is deleted and only "Circle 02" remains.
I do not understand this behavior.

02. "Choose by altitude" works for displacement but not for color except "All". Is it correct?

03. What is "Legacy" in "Texture space"?

Good question, as I don't understand this behavior either. I do know that highest raised only literally works, so just on heights.  If you need to merge colors with highest raise, there would be a way, but it's hardly ever needed, I guess.
Looking forward to an explanation of this merge mystery.
