Working on creating smooth walls and a flat canyon bottom with vibrant colours. All critiques more than welcome.
It's just fantastic. Love the colours ;)
very nice !!!
did you try with a darker blue sky ?
Excellent. The colors especially. You have to give a few hints on your postwork techniques. They do create a fantasy-like effect in this particular image - but then, the smooth surface might also help with that.
cheers,

Awesome work. I love this. My only critique is due to TG2's limitations. We need to be able to do terrain like this on planetary scale because these gorge like scenes are following a certain formula of set up now. If these materials were applied to a whole planet terrain with similar gorge like structures then it would be fantastic and not necessary to block out views into the distance.
Interesting effect.
Thats simply amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a thread somewhere about doing canyons/gourges on a planetary scale.
Try searching for "procedural canyons" or similar.
Thanks. It looks like there is a lot of useful info on that thread. I will look into it.
Very vibrant colours ,-) Like the displacements and their look in the distance.
Overall a very eyecatching render.
Thanks for the comments. In terms of postwork I did the following:
1. Adjusted levels slightly
2. Followed volker's soft light overlay technique
3. Slightly increased saturation of the red and orange colours
4. Added a little vignetting to the corners to attract more interest to the center.
Most of the surreal effect seems to stem from the smooth walls and odd chopped off displacement.
What beautiful colors and lighting!
Not too sure about the anthills though...
Excellent
