Title: Another Road
Post by: Rumburak on October 22, 2015, 11:30:52 AM
Hello everyone,

I've been playing around with Terragen 3 for a while now, but this is my first post in this forum.

First, I have to tell you that the work you show in this forum is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for every image or file you share! I'm just a hobbyist, but with the help of your files I learned a lot about using Terragen. For this first image I'm sharing, I took one of Ulco's amazing Mountain Roads (the ones available at NWDA Store) as base and changed a little bit here and there. What do you think about it?

Regards
Patrick

Pretty nice road. I would work on grass. Try to add colour variations and maybe a PF to leave some spaces without .
Looking forward.

David

Ps : I do agree that Ulco put really nice setups on NWDA Store. Many things to learn from them. Good addition to this forum ;-)

Welcome to the forum, and your first show is pretty good indeed. I like the layout and the way you see the road disappearing, and the low fog is great. The grass needs work, David is right. I would use larger grasses (this seems quite small in relation to the dirt track), and a variety of them, and at least make some color variation in this basic grass. Some low shrub or a lone tree up front maybe.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I changed the lawn into a meadow now. Thanks for the hints. Maybe there is a little too much of the dry grass. What do you think?

Patrick

No, this is perfect. One thing you could do; there's a vector displacement shader somewhere to warp the road, and there's likely (I'm visualazing the network now, so I'm not sure) an open input in that shader (left side). If you add a copy of that vector displacement shader there with smaller displacement (say 1m) and and a small scale power fractal to its function input, you can warp the tracks a little bit extra, so they are not so straight. Sizes for the PF should be around 1/5/0.1 or so, and you can change the white to grey for less impact or decrease the color roughness if it's too wild.

Just a little change in the tracks. I'm pretty pleased with the result, so I would call this the final render.
Thanks again for all your hints and comments.

Got it! Great render. The only minor issue is the row of trees on the right distance; they look a bit similar. But that is minor indeed.

Well done and a belated welcome to the forum. Darn it all...now I gotta figger out a way to afford the roads package, heh heh heh
