Especially good on a panorama are the many possible viewing angles.
After stopping my 6000x12000 Render for messing up the Isetta I checked the ready part of the image with my panorama software. I was quite lucky that I can extract single parts and export them as an image in rectangular projection.
This one was one I liked most
(In the next iteration the old bark on the sidewalk and street will be smaller. Looks weird at the moment.
[attach=1] a bit closer: [attach=2]
very nice one!
HEY! which redneck left the old newspaper on the street?? Man!, these people...
:D
So you have this equirectangular projected image and you can extract 'normal' images out of that? That's cool. I have to check that feature in PTGui. Hope it's there as well.
And great detail, Nils.
whoooeee, 6000x12000...I'd be a year rendering that....shows great details as Ulco said...
It seems big but in panoramas it's an usual size... They sometimes talk about Gigapixel-images... 8) ;D
3 days rendering and I had this:
[attach=1]
The top part ran fast but the real hard core renderpart is the bottom! I guess about 6-8 more days until it would have been finished.

YEAH AMIGA RULEZ!!!...khmmm...sorry ::)
Back to "(my) Silent Hill ;)
Getting a bit bored of all the space scenes, I tried to open and render my Silent Hill scene in TG4.
NO Chance! ;D ;D ;D
I knew with it's some 100 millions of plants instances it was overdone and taking TG3 to it's limits, but with the higher memory consumption of TG4 I had no success starting any renderjob in TG4 so far.
I went some steps back and tried to create a new village scene with new buildings I bought at CGTrader.
But I am totally missing the charme of my "good old street":
[attach=1] [attach=2]
[attach=3] [attach=4]
Also at the moments with most of my concentration on other scenes (the stardock) I am too lazy to work on the details. Perhaps next year... and maybe only a fast fly trough animation with a bit lower quality... ;)
But most of you know me a bit... giving up? A difficult concept... ;D
So I twiggled on the original Silent Hill and tried to insert the Space Bubble in TG3 for a (or more ;) ) later "Show Down Animations"
First little success: I tried to get a kind if twilight with a late afternoon sun and the bubble (two planets length far from this planet) above "the company" - or whatever it is ;) 8)
Hope you like it a bit though the space bubble should not be there (in real life) ;)
[attach=5]
Nice :)
How much RAM do you have ? Curious. I haven't had much time to pay attention for the differences in TG4
Only 16 GB even the "big" i7
The last one I rendered on a i7 with even only 8 GB.
But most advantage for getting it to work on TG3 is that I could give the renderjob for the animation to Pixelplow. I didn't check the last weeks, but I think they still use the TG4 alpha...
I see. It is always the same. In time whatever you have it becomes not enough.
3-4 years ago i barely used my 32 RAM. Now i have to be careful not to exceed it more then i would like.
Yes, you have to keep running to stay level with progression :P
In the last months I was watching the RAM consumption and render speed of my PCs speed a bit but I couldn't find very big differences between 6 / 8 and 16 GB. But the processor speed of 3.4 / 3.6 / or 3.9 made differences of up to 20% per frame.
Mostly I am a kind of juggler between renderjobs: Developing scenes on the fastest. Rendering first 20-100 frames also on the fastest. If a scene works - then finishing the renderjob on a slower PC. If I want it faster - Pixelplow...
Really absolutely most trouble is the automatic update function of Windows 10! I must admit - I am greedy and stingy with effective PC usage during their uptime. And I always could cry if I want to check the first frames of a new renderjob before I leave for the office in the morning and I see the windows login screen!!! ??? :-[ :'( >:( :(
But this is a bit better now since I mostly check for updates before going to sleep... :)

Yeah 20 years later if we are still here around in this forum-and in general :P - we will say still similar things probably ;D

...to stay level with progression is just a barrel without ground (if it's ok to use this term) :)
But I love it! ;D
;D

That is annoying yes. We should have control over that.
Maybe there are a solution around? I use the "defer feature updates" option but that is not a real solution.
Somewhere I saw something like "restart while PC is not used" and "define usage times".
Perhaps I'll play around with this some day. --- if I find it again ;D
I love this progression too. many years ago I earned my living scribbling images in pen and ink, well, that era has gone for ever.
Can't you shut off internet connection while rendering to avoid updates?

Theoretically yes but I would have to reorganize my network, because I do complicated backups via network.
Also TG4 wouldn't start without internet.
It's same "additional" work to check for updates all 1-3 days manually or taking care before starting TG4 to connect internet and after starting renderjob disconnect again.
Is there such an option in TG where render could auto pause if connection is lost or interrupted? I know you can save all renders to Temp, but I think this could be some new option maybe? Seems like Fridays are the worst in US. I do not know if all the updates are shoved in as it is TGIF or the financial wizards are gathering or what, but even the fastest stuff bogs down, even retail servers.
Nice idea luvsmuzik but I guess it won't work. I think best is in fact a little bit of good old handwork... checking for updates is no big thing to do.
Terragen will not have any influence to the update behavior. I am a bit amused (and of course angry) that sometimes Win10 just decides that your PC is not in usage when "ONLY" that little TG3 or 4 is rendering with that "little nothing" of CPU usage of 100% and RAM usage of 85%... ;D ;D ;D
Cross your fingers for me, friends...
After 3 bluescreens in 20 minutes I ordered this memory:
Ballistix Sport 32GB Kit (8GBx4) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) UDIMM 240-Pin Memory - BLS4CP8G3D1609DS1S00BEU
After almost 2 years with 7d24h on 60-90% load it's time to let my 16 GB DDR3 [PC3-12800] Nanya Technology Modell M2F8G64CB8HC5N-DI rest in peace... :-\
Hope the memory increasement and buying a compete set will solve some of my stability problems. 64 GB is at the end of month and with some dentist costs no option... ;D
With the use of those objects you will be at the edge very fast as it looks ;D
Push it! Push it more! :D
You can have loads of RAM and still kick it into the weeds. I nailed my 32GB at home just by working on one high res poster for a client. Was a very big photoshop file indeed.
Two Windows updates later...
Just to get a status quo for my film project at the end of the year I pushed a new scene.
Just to remember
The unknown entity (frames# 068, 801, 940):
[attach=1] [attach=2] [attach=3]
The new scene which was always in my mind:
The incoming fleet at the location of reckoning - or whatever will happen... ;) :o 8)
(frames# 001, 045, 0200, 0500)
[attach=4] [attach=5]
[attach=6] [attach=7]
The decision has been made. If technically possible, the next "teaser" will be really long! And it will be mostly close to the final film. But some details I'll keep out including the pointe and the conclusion of the film...
At the moment I am still waiting for the finishing of some renderjobs. Eg. a short part R2D2 & BB8 will need app. 500 more hrs :o ;)
Awesome, I'm out of words for your project. Seems like 2020 is now 2018? You're going very fast....

2018? If that works, it's the merit of Matt and Oshyan and their TG4 :)
But I try to keep patient, because I've already seen some difficulties with sound, soundtrack and voices. Cutting is also not that easy and who knows what kind of surprises are waiting for me when I check the story-logic while I am cutting.
That looks amazing, Nils! Especially the huge ships in the haze with the fighters in front of them. Great sense of scale.
You may be right.... forgot about the editing and sound part.
Thanks, both of you :)
Hannes, the scale was one of the things almost making my crazy... especially the firefly is such a small vessel, that I needed a "special move" for her to come into the frame in interesting but not overdone way...
The starfuries are a bit higher number than in the spacedock, because here I used (3) moving pops and in the stardock it were 42 single objects with individual movement to get the formation "stretched".
So in the spacedock 42 -- here about 60 ;D
Ulco, guess, what is waiting at home in my hallway to be connected to PC for the soundtrack... ;)
[attach=1]
I hope, I didn't forget everything... :D
So you play music as well, or will you drum out a nondescript rhytm?
That could happen, Ulco, because I didn't find the blue node for the animation soundtrack in TG4 so far ;D
So I'll do my best to do some interpretations of some known moviescores...
Looks great Doc and i wish i could play music too :)
Edit: More Eagles please :D
I'll have to change the script then, Kadri: ;D ;D
Cdr. Adama: "Captain Kirk, we have 2 Minbari- and 2 Narn-Cruisers, 3 Vree saucers, the Galactica, the Serenity, the Voyager, the Lexx, a Republican Corvette, 4 Eagles and the 42 Starfuries..."
Kirk: "isn't that great? - and on the planet 20 more Starfuries and 200 Eagles will meet us! --- Great - did you hear that, Bones - did you hear that??"
McCoy: "Damn' - I'm a doctor, Jim, not a voice recorder!..."
Sounds great ;D

With music, as soon as your fingers hit the keys, or in my case strings it all flows back...have no fear.
Thanks, Bobby :) I think you're right.
But before that I still have some more animation renders to finish... even for my next planned "only" teaser I need some more little scenes to fix some logical "holes"...
So here an old friend comes back - he found the way from the desert to Silent Hill ;)
[attach=1]
Also I had a bit work on the area around the keysmith's house. Last time I didn't think I could ever animate it. But now the renderjob is running. I still had to delete some pops and had to add some things to optimize that area for animating. Anyway I could not work on it without the new 32Gb RAM! ;)
Tonight camera should already have turned to the left part of the scene... and there are waiting ... :-X
Here in one of the first frames just a bit oldfashioned advertising for Planetside :)
[attach=2]
These are so cool, beautiful light in the first and lots of detail in the second.
Do you know, what is the hardest job at the moment, Ulco?
Keeping the finished parts of the animations back until I can offer the promised "quite logical cut"... ! :-X ;)
In movement some views are much more interesting. But again and again I find little holes to fill and changes to make. ::) :)
I can imagine you like to show, but I agree; keep back until it's all complete.
Congratulations! all the pictures are excellent. This is an animation project that requires a great lot of work.
Nice :)
I would like to see the street version animated especially.
Great!! Looking forward to 2020! ;)
2018 hopefully. ;D
Frame 99 of 500 :)
The robot's will arrive soon (since I've learned the "Waiting-for-a-Terragen-Renderjob-Patience", 1-2 Weeks is "soon" ;) ;D )
[attach=1]
After finished render I will start another renderjob with a little change: The doorframe on the right is disturbing me. I will add a better textured door frame (perhaps just a board to cover the old frame) Rendering the animation with the cropped area should be finished in only some hours. Then I can insert the copped part frame by frame...
I already did that in other problem-renders. Worked fine as long I don't use sunbursts or bloom effects.
And for all of you patiently waiting for 2020... There'll be a new post in some minutes... 8) 8) 8) ;D
Yeah, that doorframe is badly UV'd. Some ivy may also hide it. Or someone standing in front.
I found more little mistakes and restarted the renderjob with little changes.
First of course a new UV'd doorframe
The bike is back
The newspapers are back
And I moved the bench + trashbin a bit to get it into the viewed area of the last animation images.
Frame 5:

Frame 500:

Will there be a small interaction between the robot and the funny car? They seem kind of akin, so a little glance at eachother while passing may be funny.
Nice idea, Ulco! ;D
I can't promise but I will think about that for the "director's cut" ;)
Some things to check then because of the story plot.
A wipe of the windscreen wipers or a a flash with the headlights, or a little excited hobble on its wheels..... :)
OK, you've convinced me! ... and I've got an idea...
But I hope you forgive me that it will definitely be in the 2020 version. You will understand then...
For the moment ... :-X ;)
