Title: Wild Garden
Post by: AP on February 02, 2016, 06:16:13 PM
An overnight render with an idea for a very dense and wild garden.

Do you have luminosity cranked up on the scene? Lighting looks weird to me............ ???

No, there is more haze then usual because i wanted a thicker scene. The saturation may be a bit extreme but more of an artistic choice.

Don't get me wrong............I like the lighting. Reminds me of a full moon with dew laden grasses............... ;D  Almost ghostly.

It is still open to change. I wanted something misty and somewhat bright. Some dew all over would be neat to have. Not entirely certain how to go about doing that. Not enough ambiance here.

I agree about the light; it seems there's no shadows, like you light it with a luminous plane. But it has something eerie about it indeed, which I do like in a way. But I would patch them more, and have more translucency in the grass leaves.
Dew can be done, I've done it years ago. Not perfect, but the idea is to use a tiny few mm drops world space (there's a blue node combination for random circles), and add a little bump thru those and add a reflective shader (small reflection roughness=0.01) masked by it. All in the parts area.

I think being too much haze flushed out the shadows. Translucency is at 1. What should i increase it to in this case if i leave the haze thickness alone? I think i have a function i put together that are very nice dots for the dew idea.

I don't really mind the lighting that much, actually.
It's may be a little bit too flat, but on a typical overcast day you get similar lighting like this.

What you can try is reverting atmo to default and use a cloud layer to create the diffuse light.
You don't need a cloud fractal shader plugged into the cloud, just set the cloud coverage adjust to +1 and it will fill itself completely.
Then it's a matter of finding the height, depth and density which creates the light you're looking for.

I would start simple: 2000m altitude, 100m thick and density of 0.01.
If that completely obilterates shadows, then you need more light passing through, so reduce density (or thickness).
Logically, it also works the other way around.

So lighting is not so much of an issue for me, but the perfectly spherical flowering dandelions are a bit too perfect to my eye?

The cloud idea is a good one. I certainly can try that. The Dandelions do need some work. I needed to fix some parts after noticing some minor flaws and will re-post them in the File Sharing thread.

I think I like that glow. Would be cool to see the image with that really enhanced as a iteration.

I'm still working on it. Including dew drops and altering the light somewhat.

When I see it I see a fairy garden. Not wild but very beautiful!

Finished for now. I was going to add dew drops but decided not to this time.
