Post by: AP on February 10, 2016, 09:41:15 PM
What does anyone think about these Stones?

I think they are nice looking but they are all basically the same.

That is because they are from a single customized stone imported and made into a population. The only other way around this is to allow Terragen objects to be populated which is not possible, at least for now.

I knew imeaditly that it was a limit of the tech and not your creativity, chris. I was just pointing out the obvious  ;D Now others can respond more deeply since I got the basics.  :D

No worries. Limitations are a given in any software of course so a work around presents a good challenge.

They need a bit more polys perhaps, as you can see in the zigzag pattern at front. For a bit of distance they can work well, I'd say. How about the internal stone object, can't you up that polycount and use your nodes to texture them?

I noticed that as well. I will have to see if that can be fixed. The Rock object is a bit of a pain to use. It is somewhat laggy. To be honest i never thought of the idea of using that feature so it would be worth looking into verses a repetitious set of stones. I often wonder why no one uses that feature?

I need detail so would sub-dividing be needed? I would like to avoid using that.

I use it occasionally for bigger stones or boulders as I find fake stones very frustrating to use.

I just went though using the Rock object using a high face count of 200 and sub-division of 3 but it is still lacking way too much detail using a Power fractal shader for example. If i have to use very high sub-division, i will have to abandon this idea and try something else.
