I know I've visited this topic before. I have been using vHeight in the preview to read the height of the camera above the next surface below it. I presume this is the way it works because it seems to measure its height above the hydrosphere until it goes below the water then the number goes up again, presumably because it is then measuring the height above the lithosphere and ignoring the hydrosphere which is now above it. My problem is that the data goes away after the camera stops. It is not enough time for me to mentally process the data that is no longer visible. Is there a way to force it to stay in that mode? After a brief period it clears and there are no readings.
Two ways:
1) If you're moving the view with Alt+mouse, it continues to display Vheight (and the viewer coordinates) as long as you keep Alt+mouse button held down. If you're using the navigation panel, after moving the view it continues to display these values until you move the mouse outside the navigation panel.
2) There's a persistent version of this display in the "3D Preview Location" window which can be opened from the View menu.

Thanks Matt. The 2nd option is pretty cool. I think I'm going to use that a lot in the future.
