Is there any way I can set up a render Layers node to output an Object ID pass for use in a compositor?
The only way I can think of is to set up an entirely new scene with a single colour for each object and output in render layers Surface diffuse colours (before lighting).
Is there another solution ?

I don't know of a better solution yet. There's still a need for a proper object ID render element.

Thanks, it's never come up before and I thought it would be worth while checking first. Objects render very quick so it's not a huge issue.
Just wanted to check on methodology.
