I expect some of you will have realized this already but displacement can also drive colour. File in file sharing.
But why so complicated? If you use the colors of a fractal, you can drive both colors and displacement in other nodes, from the single fractal. And combine those. Or maybe I miss the point of your file....
Using the PF colours doesn't always work as well as using displacement masks. It's just a different solution - try using to colour the inside of cracks for example.
Besides, the fractal warp shader only outputs displacement - does it not?
Yes, I believe so. In that sense it's an interesting way of putting it together. Here's another way to use a basic color for displacements and colors, to be adjusted and combined however needed. Easy way to color and displace, say, cracks.
I tried a similar set up with my file. In more complex situations(3PFs) I got a messy result, using displacement to drive colour produced a simpler clearer result. I guess there's a place for both techniques.
I really appreciate you guys posting and sharing these techniques!
That's brilliant Ulco, thanks for the visual tute.

this is a lotta fun, many scenes in this file.....Thanks Mick.
