Hey guys where's a good place to buy plant objects for use in Terragen nowadays? I'm looking for high quality objects, would be nice if offered in tgo format but obj will do if not.
Is Xfrog still the only real option?
Edit: I've download objects from the file sharing section on this forum and downloaded from NWDA but looking for more choice and higher quality.
Thanks
Here's you another...................

Thanks.
Looks like they have some nice looking bushes and grass but they only have 9 trees. Do you know anywhere that has a greater choice of objects?
There are model trees at every 3d site of varying quality. DAZ, Renderosity, Xfrog. Try some of the arch vis sites............they are mainly gonna be landscape models. Search the internet..........................my answer. Or buy Speedtree. :)
these are a bit expensive but high quality.

although Speed Tree might be a long term better use of your cash.
they have free samples on the site some where as well.
The evermotion trees look very good and they have free samples, for evaluating purposes.
Do you guys just build your own trees now using this speedtree software then? Buying quality objects can soon start costing a lot of money so in the long run I can see how you could save money using something like speedtree.
What do you do about textures though? Presumably speedtree allows you to model the object but what do you do about creating the texture for the correct type of wood, leaves etc?
If you need more than a hundred trees, Speedtree will soon be cheaper indeed. There are a lot of textures to be found on the web, and you can make your own. Or use the textures that go with XFrog if you have them. Speedtree also has the possibility to make custom leaf-objects in another app like Lightwave, say a set of UV-mapped planes or even apples, that you can add as leaves in the tree.
Vizpark have a couple of nice bundle collection :

Those one are made with GrowFX (3dsmax plugin), the only tree/plants generator that allows you to sell your models.
Growfx is a really neat generator too !
The groove (Blender commercial addon)
https://www.thegrove3d.com/ (https://www.thegrove3d.com/)
This one is more a growth tree simulator ... Leaves and twigs need to be modeled by hand (TheGroove will take care of the scattering).
Thanks for the links guys, i've added them to my favourites so I can peruse them later.
The Evermotion motion trees do look very nice but where are the free samples, I want to see what they look like in TG?
I came across this plant and leaf texture site which maybe useful to those with speedtree. - http://www.anniemation.com/textures/flowers.html

that's an over all great texture site, thanks for the link.
If you click on a tree there will be a new window and on the right it says free sample, where the list of specifics is. I don't know if it is that particular tree, as I tried a few, but they had the same name. They are heavy, one was more than a gig! Didn't check them out yet.

Got it, cheers. I'll try out......if my machine can handle it ;D
Just tried out one of the Evermotion trees which is 3.3GB once extracted. The obj file itself is around 500MB
Despite the huge file size it's not looking too good in Terragen. The branches are blocky where you can clearly see straight lines and there's also a chequered pattern effect with the shadows.
Is this a Terragen bug, a setting i've not set correctly or just not a very good model?
Edit: Make sure you view the image at 100%

Looks like Smooth Normals isn't working (or isn't enabled). Perhaps the object doesn't include normals? Try exporting from Poseray...

Never tried that one but it doesn't look like any TG bug I've seen....the quality seems to vary unless you're using 3dmax which they are aimed at I think.
Also this notice makes them unusable for any renders you show anywhere but at home on your own computer from the looks of it.
Yep I saw the notice. I just wanted to check out the quality and make sure there aren't any issues.
Perhaps the vertices aren't welded, so in Poseary do that also, and set smooth normal recalculation. It might give a lower Mb as well. But it looks like I'm not even going to open that tree.

All the ones I checked out were .max and I couldn't use em so I binned 'em. I'm on their mailing list and at one point I was getting sample .obj's from them...and fairly reasonable in size and 'not too bad' geometry.
Well just tried to load it into poseray to fix it up and got an out of memory error message so i'm going to forget about the evermotion trees. Look good on the site but not so good in Terragen and can't fix them.

Suspected that might happen but have no ability to convert .max so wasn't sure...get speed tree is my advice if you have the cash. I would had I the cash.
Hi Bobby,
I can convert some .max models into .obj if you want ... (as long as there is no EULA restriction about conversion/redistribution of the sample models).
Is there any particular model (link) you are looking for ? (can't do it before Monday)

I'll keep that in mind, I forgot...you did the moon bridge for me right...old age encroaches on my memory some daze.
I don't think it was me, but old age is coming here too ;D
