Title: Unusual extension
Post by: ExD_3 on April 25, 2016, 12:02:35 PM
Hello, could you help me.
I have the same problem as in http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=7088.0 . I know that TG can use only the files with the extension *.ter, but my file can be used with an exotic extension *.tnm, and I am sure that this card game area, because the first word in the code: TERRAIN NORMAL MAP, but the rest of the code is: ... <_9 hU0їBUі;??? Ir9 ЁB0їwkB8Shy9 N <0ї ... There associated files, such as *.xterrain, *.xgrass and others (they does not open in TG3).
This image of Korean games, and so I also can not read its code, but I'm working on it.
I need advice what to do with it? Do I need to put Windows XP SP3 with the support of the Korean language, so that I had a chance to read the code (I now have Windows 7 SP1)?
Please give any idea of what I can do.

Changing the language won't help. If it's a "normal map" it may not even have the kind of data you want, but it's possible it does. Have you tried loading it with the Geog_heightfield Loader (Add Terrain->Heightfield (load DEM)? IF it can be loaded by Terragen, that would be the way to do it, not with a regular heightfield load node (which, as you say, only loads .ter and a few standard image formats).

Where did you get the file? Is it from a Korean *video game*?

There are sites that explain all sorts of extensions. And what if you rename the extension to jpg or bmp or tif and see if it opens in an imaging software (it sometimes works), then you can at least see what it is, perhaps.

http://www.file-extensions.org/tn-file-extension

try renaming to .jpg

also just found this:

http://file.downloadatoz.com/tnm-file-extension/tnm-converter.html

looks like a smart phone type extension to me.

I changed the extension to *.csv, and tried to load it into the application, but all I see is: "Status: Importing file ..." and nothing ...

The error comes: "...is not a file format that can be loaded. ..."
No, it's out of the game, which is designed only for PC

I really don't think this is a file that can be loaded by Terragen. I'm not even confident that it has data in it that would be useful. What are you thinking it has, height data?
