Title: Easy for you. Flip the direction?
Post by: luvsmuzik on May 02, 2016, 04:59:34 PM
I made an object out of a cylinder. I am trying to texture it (displacement). The cyclinder obj is in the upright position when completed but when I try to apply displacement, it goes the wrong way or is flat on the front of the object. I have tried each  x, y z and normal and still get what looks like tree bark instead of layered stone....HINT HINT HELP Subsurface also applied.

Not sure what the problem is. A picture or TGD file if possible ?

image is of basic cylinders, 7 edge loops subdivisions on each cyclinder for more faces and verts. Images are marked displacement applied x, and y respectively. See the flattening when using x? I want the displacement to go x  in the manner as y appears. Y appears like tree bark and I want that look only going horizontally, not vertically.

This is probably some basic modelling but I am stuck. Thanks in advance.

Figured it out. Had to modify the obj. Rough render thrown together, but this is where I was going. Columns of sediment with hollows behind at water's edge.
