Just playing around with the erode plugin blended with the PF Terrain and a whole bunch of veg. C & C welcome
C&C? OK:
- I'd mask the clouds by a larger set of fractals so, these nice little clouds don't covere the whole sky.
- Change the light; it's very flat.
- Smooth the water; it's distractingly rough.
- Blend the populations into more believable patches; they are too 'separated' somehow.
- Put your camera such that you have a foreground for more depth.

Thanks Ulco....eggs ackley my thoughts...wasn't planned and the pops may change in species as well, not happy with em as is. Was trying to keep the terrain more visible as every time I try an erosion pic I populate it so much I lose the terrain...sigh
Well the terrain is great! The water is way too noisy and yep, break up the clouds. If you make your pops very dense then break them up with a pf you'll get a much more natural look.
That's a lovely composition otherwise.
The erosion thingummy's very handy isn't it? Been using it a lot at work lately. I was going to write a tutorial at some point as it's not obvious how to blend different scales, reduce the overall effect and so on. Unless you've all figured that out too in which case I'll shut up. ;D
@ajcgi - please do!
@bobbystahr - The composition, the pastel colours, the scattering of clouds and plants has kind of a Impressionist, even Van Gogh-ish feeling to it.
I like it very much in its own right. So, for me that could be another path refining the image.
cheers, Klaus

To be honest I was planning a rather painterly scene and originally had no plans for populations. I used the Presets tweaked a bit in an attempt to come to grips with my colour blindness so thanks for noticing that. An ongoing battle with my eyes.

Please do, many of us await with bated breath...seriously.
Somehow I like it. Not perfectly realistic but I feel a bit like looking at a Van Gogh.
Funny! Van Gogh was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the thumbnail.

well, I am insane....
re iterating this image has me mightily discouraged...was originally a test with presets to compensate for my colourblindness and was going swimmingly till the veg....may come back to it later as what I have ain't working...I did like the WIP best so far.
...and take care of your ears, Bobby! ;) ;) ;)
:D
Why don't you convert all your images to greyscale, Bobby? Some awesome results have been posted on the forum, and B&W is really artistic (if done well). No more red leaves and purple branches ;)

I have considered that Ulco but that's admitting defeat...and the affliction is why I did all B&W comics when I was doing undergrounds and B&W band posters unless the band specified colours they wanted in the design....then I used a pantone chart to specify the colours to the printer as I did all B&W separations of the colour plates.

I'm trying Hannes but a mixing accident gave me a non stop ringing(tintitus) in my right ear in 1984 and as of 2 summers ago it started affecting my vertigo to the point I can only cross level bridges on foot or by bicycle(I'm O K in cars and busses)and this year discovered 30-50 % loss in that ear so no stereo mixing....I fortunately have a recording engineer pal who does that for me saving my recordings from radical left diminished balance as I'd been over compensating on the right ear. And to think I stayed completely acoustic to save my ears from rock and roll volume damage. Guess it's just part of my karma learning to deal with this. It doesn't seem to affect my musical abilities as I can still sing as good (average) as I ever could and my guitar is always in tune. Of course we now have digital tuners so that's less of an issue.

Seriously, have I done that recently? As a child my Mom first noticed it when I did brown leaves, green trunks, a purple sky with a bright lime green sun. I was 5 at that time...If my parents were fine arts painters I'd have been taken out an shot it was so embarrassing.
No, it's not that bad, Bobby. I was just joking. But it might be an interesting option anyway.

I suspected exaggeration but with my synapses who knows....

I was joking too, Bobby, referring to the fact that Van Gogh cut off one of his ears due to his mental disease. ;)
Bobby have you done an image in that you used only the colors that you see the world around yourself,
without thinking about how others see it?
Artistic or not i would like to see in which colors you see the sky, ground, trees, leaves etc.

In retrospect I dig that and get the Van Gogh reeference...a friend in a perverted fit of jealousy over an artist girl we were both chasing said once,
"I'm gonna cut off your ear and send it to Maureen" to which I laughed uproariously; but currently am a bit concerned about my hearing as music is my chief love in life, hence my reply...sorry for being uncharacteristicaly unhumourous.

I would but they turn out rather drab...well I will in a spare moment but I don't really like exploring that drab world much which is why I'm so grateful for the Presets which give me a starting point that's 'correct'.
