Title: Lost in the woods
Post by: Cocateho on July 14, 2016, 12:43:46 AM
Somewhere on a hill, in the woods, by a stream :P

Nice mood. But I get the idea the stream (the whole terrain) is tilted to the right.

I like the mood too  :)

But in fact something plays jokes with my eyes too. Maybe it's for my eyes unlogical that the stream seems to have a flat bed but on the right side the hills falls down?

Like some landscapes where people think their cars can roll up the street as by magic but it's just optical illusion.

I find this disturbing too but with a few tweaks this could be a great image.

Excellent. It's just like a photo in all the best ways, plus in the landscape photographer's wonky horizon way too. ;) Personally I'd just straighten the image.

Very pleasant lighting and woodsy setting. A good amount of colors as well. The sun glare does give it that more photographic and truly bright daytime.

This is a beauty for sure. Sure its a bit tilted but its not something you can't quickly straighten out in PH.

Very pleasurable to look out. Nice job!

The stream itself is perfect now, but the wide area of mud/water on the left still feels like slanting. And I think it's worth having a go at that as well, or leave it out. The render itself is really good.
You could place a local soft SSS, and a tilt and shear shader to slant it to the left a bit, so it looks more horizontal.

The contrast is much better now in my eyes.

Because of the slanting feeling I made a simple experiment: I just mirrored the image horizontaly and it kooked 100% more matching for my eyes. Seems to be a psychological effect too... Perhaps left handers like it as it is?

I'm left-handed and it appears to slope for me too.

mhh, then it was only my personal impression that it looked better mirrored.

The left brain and right brain are different, and being left- or right-handed doesn't fundamentally change those differences. So it may be that some pictures look better when mirrored for most people, regardless of their handedness. But I'm just speculating.

I hope we aren't hijacking your thread, Cocateho!
