Title: Clouds (for lack of a better title)
Post by: Dune on July 31, 2016, 06:22:14 AM
Park-like landscape with a new easy cloud after some experimentation. Nice clouds can be produced. Changing settings very quickly change the total mood I found.

I like this!
Are you using 3 seperate cloud layers?

Looks very good. What kind of render time ?

Two layers, of which one a simple cirrus (but masked by another PF). Render time 1 hour and 5mins. Detail 0.6, AA6, soft shadows 0.5 samples 5, defer atmo, quality default 0.75.

Nice. What cloud type is this, and is it 3.9.06 or 3.9.07? Those low wavy bits are nice but I hope the cloud doesn't always look like that at the base.

Is this done on a simple flat terrain? Great lighting on trees, etc., etc., etc. I like the richness of the sky and cloud colors!

I will be the first to say fractals are wonderful, but does all that color function and displacement function increase usage and render time?

It's in 3.9.06 the castellanus type with micro whisps. I liked it too.

Yes, simple flat terrain, river from warped simple shape. And yes, the more fractals you use the longer a render takes, especially if you have a lot of fine displacement. So play it carefully.

I really love the clouds in this one. I know it's just a test, but I'd like to see it with higher cloud quality to get rid of that last bit of noise, and maybe with these clouds in a more finalized scene (in terms of the ground). I think these clouds deserve to shine. :D

Those are some good looking clouds overall. Castellanus, interesting. The only thing that sticks out to me is the white highlighted parts lack some detail. It seems a bit flat. The terrain of course looks excellent and quite natural. The largest trees look very interesting.

Very nice picture. I like that sky is this light. I look forward to trying tg4.  :)

Agree, it's a great scene already but does deserve to shine.

I do not wish to criticize so much. Maybe there's potential for clouds improvement but I can almost feel a few stray raindrops.

My only wish would be a bit live scenery as I know it from many of your other images.
