Does anyone know why the sun in this clip is in front of the clouds? I've tried and tried to get the clouds to partially obscure the sun but without success. All values are "normal" i.e. sun strength 4, redsky decay 8 etc. using TG4 beta with just one easy cloud layer of Altocumulus Castellanus.
Or is this just an artifact of having "visible disc" enabled. I never normally have this option on, I have presumed that positioning the sun behind clouds would obscure it. I would have thought you could have visible disc selected and have clouds covering part of the face of the sun (as in real life!). see eg. pic from photo.
I'm an idiot!
I had Defer amto/clouds enabled. :-[
please ignore me, I'll go away!
Using your settings and had Defer atmo/cloud on and this is the result.
Thanks AP! Guess this means I'm not an idiot?
Back to the problem then. :-\
Turn off Visible Disc.

Turn off Visible Disc.

Evidently you don't because it's behind clouds. ;) Have you tried it?

yes I've tried it.
What I want is in the original post as eg.
i.e. A visible sun partially covered by cloud.
I have a working version now anyway which I'm working on.
Thanks
Hi Kevin F,
I tried this issue and i have obtained this:
This is a crop of the full render. I hope the image is visibile.
No post process, no Photoshop or other graphic editor. Simple render by Terragen 4 BETA
The full render is big and lenghty but if you want to try is in attachment below.
Some parameters used.
Defer Atmo/clouds: Off (i don't know the reason but if you check this the Sun disc is visible through the clouds).
Visible disc: On
Cloud density: 0.85
Edges Sharpening: 23.8
Parameter C: 0.25
Sun disc size: 1.44°
Render quality: 0.45
AA: 3
I hope this helps.
Greetings.
Claudio
Ps: If sun results partially visible through Cloud you play with Parameter C and Light transmission in Clouds tab.
I used the RTP also.
Thanks for this Claudio,
I managed to get it to work anyway.

My problem was that I had tweaked the atmosphere settings to levels that were giving the "wrong" results. I reset everything to default settings and it worked!
It did highlight the need however, for a quick method to return to default values for shaders and other variables (like the atmosphere tab" that have numerous parts all with variable values. The tweaks panel in the atmosphere tab has a "Reset Tweaks" option, for example and I think it would be a good idea to have this in more places.
Thanks for your input.
Hi Kevin,
Happy for you. I also think that Reset to Default would be useful in many situations.

Ps: About the lines on water i found that if you move the camera laterally until the lines become oblique to the line of sight the same disappear.
Sometimes also the lines of the boundary of the horizontal water can be seen on the sea, in this case moving the camera higher up or expand the radius of the water to the Infinite or vary the roughness of sea. Via post process then you can delete any problems.
Test it.
