Title: New project using hannes maps
Post by: bobbystahr on September 02, 2016, 02:56:05 AM
I had this tree family that really sucked from the leaf aspect; well coulda been higher poly but was free. So I used hannes very nice maps and had great luck with translucence once I removed the bump and/or normal map...this render to me has a kinda watercolour painterly feel...more in this series to come. C&C welcome...it helps stuff grow.

The watercolor feel comes from the dark edges of the leaves. Nice effect. Somehow it seems that translucency is strongest in the central areas of the leaves, did you use a map for it?

A very nice effect, Bobby. The image feels like a watercolor painting to me. Very nice!

I used hannes' translucence map in the roughness channel as well as in the Reflectivity image and meant to invert it but forgot and got water colour...luckily...coulda been way worse. so that's how to get it from the maps...I also used it in the Translucence channel at 1.0 and the Reflectivity was set to 0.5 with an IoR of 1.55

That looks indeed nice. I like this watercolor effect.
Btw the leaves still look quite large. I wonder how big they were initially. Must have had pizza size!!  ;D

It is neat to see other experimental effects take place. Indeed try it on other renders.

Very effective Bobby. The highlighted tree is fantastic. Several accents on that tree, great lighting. Like your path with the rocky edges too. Good one!

Here's another take on those trees hannes, with the Jag in front of the trees the leaves look much smaller..just needed some context.
This is with bloom and starburst but with no light source in the camera view.

Looks good Bobby. Out of interest could you reverse the Translucency map on the leaves. It looks backwards.

actually it's the noise map in the specular channel that causes that I think..meant to reverse it as an option exists as I had a feeling it was wrong, but forgot.

Maybe multiplying it with a blue node could temper it ;P
