Title: While I await a running computer
Post by: bobbystahr on October 08, 2016, 06:34:46 PM
I dug into my old files and touched up this idea...just a boredom pic where I started with and example of flatten some terrain and it sorta grew. All model except veg free online somewhere, Dune grass 4 from his free collection and Blue Leaf Eucalyptus from XFROG freebies.

The light on that house is very nice and a bit mysterious. Road is an image map, I suppose, very nice. Only I think the house too close to the road (and trees), and it's floating a bit. Nice one to elaborate on.

Actually Ulco it's a PF/FS blend...first one I'm sorta happy with for roads. Yeah, not well composed but it was a doodle as I said and I may forget about it when my new computer gets running. We're having a Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend so I'm waiting till after then to get on the builders case about it...ain't I kind, heh heh. Windows spontaneously errors out when I'm not even working on the computer and the vid card driver is from 2011 and all that should have been done when I got the box...a bit shoddy on his part....but it was inexpensive so I'm giving him slack as it was really a favour to someone he only met through Kijiji.

Well, good job on that gravel road then, keep it as a tgc. I hope these guys (guy) can fix your rig, it should behave properly or it's no fun.

Y got that right...at our music jams we say "If you're not having fun you're doing it wrong"..Kinda the same attitude, but the machine's doing it wrong. And yup, I did save it I believe.

Well full marks to Ulco on spotting that placeholder image map on th road. I had it there to harvest the colours for my Power Fractal shader and forgot to change them over when I rendered. That's done and the scene is reconfigured more to Ulco's suggestion re: building placement. And as it didn't need ray tracing I made the bldg displaceable and applied a map I made from the colour map. Perks the building right up and they also have a Luminosity map on the windows, also made by me.
2 hour render time on this old box.

The house is better situated now, but I did like the 'old road' better than this. Try to simulate that photo/texture perhaps..... or leave it in.

In fact much better  :)
Better POV
Better house details
Better composition

What I saw:
Could you check if it's only my imagination or is the front right wheel of the car floating?
The street is not so bad in my eyes but previous one looked in fact better.
And .. only if you were bored while waiting for your box  ;) perhaps some curb stones?  :)

Thanks Ulco, and I have to agree I will make another stab at re-creating that image map before I put it(the image map0 back in...I went off track some where...too late at night when I worked on it.

Thanks, you Ulco and me all agree on the road and if my next attempt doesn't nail the texture I will reinsert the image map...still floating free in the network as I suspected I may not be able to do as good or better.

Here's a crop render of the new blend which I think works and added a fakestone road edge at Doc's suggestion. Gonna be offline for a while tonight getting work done/updates to my new computer...fingers crossed.....I addition Doc spotted the floating right side of the car...the road has a 3 degree slope so I rotated the Ferrari -3 in the Z

Quite the challenge for a colourblind person to copy stuff like colour blends but having Colour Spy is a real help. I did resort to opening the image in photoshop and used it's colour picker to get the high, mid and low colours in the ground and 3 colours for fake stones. All I have to say is whew, what a struggle.

Quite the effort that paid off well. I like the camera angle here much better, shows off much more of your detailed efforts. Great job!

Thanks y'all, my project this week is to get the Corsair up and running so I can do some actual work and not just these 'sketches' I've been posting. Played at a funeral for a dear friend and was given an honouraium of enough cash for the 2nd 16 Gb of RAM so when it's up I will have the full 32 Gb...really can't wait but suppose I have to.....sigh.
