Title: Crater
Post by: yossam on October 26, 2016, 08:09:53 PM
Terrain from Geoglyph 2.0, trees from Speedtree, everything else from my little pea brain.  :)

Great, trees are very nice, color scheme is nice, rocks also, cloud also. Everything actually. You made the trees, or are they from the library? Makes me wonder, btw, if ST allows exchanging the working files between ST users. They don't allow exchanging objects, but SPM's?

That ST policy can really inhibit growth amongst owners if they won't...strange company IMHO

A fine image Yossam! The terrain and the trees work well together, nicely done.

While the Speedtree policies may seem exclusive, it certainly hasn't kept the software from winning Academy and Emmy Awards, not to mention being a key pipeline tool for most major Game and Movie Studios. As I read the EULA from IDV (the makers of ST), the sharing of files within a working company is permitted provided that all users own a license, or in the case of a large production studio (such as Digital Domain) that the licenses meet the contract specifics with that Company. So if several of us were to create a some sort of business association and share "work products" that probably would pass the guidelines, provided that the actual Speedtree Tree Libraries were not being re-distributed en masse. The sharing of custom SPM's (Speedtree Procedural Mesh) with non-IDV assets should not be an issue. If there are enough ST license holders here who would consider such a thing I would think that the folks at IDV wouldn't really object. But once again, if there was interest, we could query IDV as to the feasibility. Planetside did acquire a ST license for the VR contest, so IDV is willing to make arrangements and seems to have some flexibility.

Thanks for the positive comments. Ulco, I made the trees with a little guidance from a library entry. There are some bare trees in there somewhere, but I might have to change the population settings to get them to show up. There are 6 populations, 8000X8000, for the trees. I'm all for the sharing of SPM's, it might drum up some more business from here for IDV.  :)

Thanks Richard and Doug. So you really need to setup company and can't share spm's 'just like that' between licence holders. Too bad. It's not important, but may just occasionaly be interesting, and anyway, who'd know? An spm is nothing but a working file, and easily randomly changed anyway into a new spm. Licence holders will have a lot of the used image maps, and if they were privately added, there's nothing against exchanging those.

Excellent image, as far as the WM terrain, I think you could use a sharpening macro in there or render it larger as it seems to lack good resolution. Perhaps a redirect in Terragen would help that as well? The image is very nice BTW, excellent work.
