Title: snow on trees
Post by: Dune on December 27, 2016, 04:45:27 AM
I experimented a bit with a way to get snow on branches and found that ZBrush can do quite a nice job. I don't want to sculpt all snow, so I worked with Dynamesh and polisher from the imported tree and such to create the lumps. I think there can be better way (I would like to add dripping parts and have it just on top of branches), but this was only a 15min trial.
I know Max has some particle system that can be used, but anyone with a bright idea using either ZBrush or Lightwave?

Nice. Could be used as dense spider webs too.

The first that comes to my mind for Lightwave is you could use instances in ligthwave
and then transform export them and then tweak them in modeler for example.

Using a population of small rocks or an OBJ object on the tree in Terragen then exporting and editing in modeler might be another way.

Thanks, Kadri. Something to test. I now opened a tree in LW, selected only the +Y-normal vertices with a certain margin, exported these to ZBrush, dynameshed, relaxed and smoothed a few times, exported again. With a little more effort nicer things can be made, no doubt. It was just a test of principle.

The last image is very convincing. The pine needle detail showing thru adds a nice bit of realism.

Thanks Doug. As said, this was done very quickly. I think it can be done in 5mins per tree, but with some more effort.....
