I needed some Roman ploughing (plowing), so used DAZ cows and guy, changed details in ZBrush, made a plough in Lightwave, combined all in Poseray, and imported in TG. Also made a few new Douglas Firs.
First render took only 11mins (detail 0.6, AA 6, soft shadows 0.5/samples 6) , second (same settings but with easy cloud) 1h17mins.
Very nice!
looking good
Nice image Ulco.
Terrific! Such detail in the depression for the plowed area and furrows! Having seen a few plowed fields, that could have been done by a diesel tractor! I know it is a stretched fractal, but did you mask it to go in two directions for the furrows and then another one for the longer grass to lower right?
Trees, plants and vegetation very well done.
I laugh at your spelling here only because a family name has been changed so many times over the years due to confusion on heritage and pronunciation of same. Rough ruff ruff...rough rue rue, too funny. :)
Both look really good. Maybe a bit of dust later. That's a top drawer plowing job, gotta' give the plowman and beasts highest marks. :)
Kind of like to see a couple little kids kicking around messing it up.
No stretched fractals. It's based on some blue nodes: get position in texture, X to scalar, divide by some value to size the thing, then a sinus for displacement, basically. Then some clumps added to that. The hole thing masked by the field SSS, and a painted area where I didn't want too much furrows, which only masked the sinus bit, not the clumps. I can warp the whole thing of course to make it less perfect, or add some PF mask, and pay more attention to where the furrows exactly end (near the plough), but it was merely a test of concept (again). Yeah, dust, I should do that.
Truly impressive field construction Ulco...no flies on your inventiveness; but I question using a cow to pull a plough, would really spoil the milk...an ox or a team of oxen would be more appropriate IMHO.
I really like those new Douglas Firs. Nice light in both. Easy Clouds!
QuoteIn many agricultural areas, cows have historically and frequently been trained to work as oxen. This way, the family has a single beast that can not only plow their fields, but reproduce and supply milk. Also, cows can still be bred while being used in the role of oxen, allowing the farmer to choose working replacements born from his own animals rather than buying new males (which would be used only for training) to replace the current working team when they age beyond their useful years. Cows that serve more than one purpose generally stay smaller than oxen, but can be more efficient in the end for small farmers.
I don't know what the Romans did (that's what this was for), but poor farmers probably just used a cow or two. But to be honest, I didn't know oxen were usually male (I obviously mistakenly knocked them balls off in DAZ). Good to know.
Yeah, Doug; easy clouds. They took the most time, but they are so nice.

Ain't no free lunch in 3D for sure, but it's generally an expense you don't regret...and they'll be more fun with the promised expanded settings....and even the Israelites had oxen and they were poor nomads...what kinda burr got under my saddle today, nit picking everything...
Man Ulco you are unstoppable
Keeps me off the streets ;)
been suffering from sinus all thru xmas and new yr
what its gotto do with this I never know, what is sinus in TG?
That's really great! Beautiful and realistic. A little bit of dust would be cool indeed.
Sinus is a blue node for wavy stuff. Check it out in the wiki, very useful at times.
Exactly what I was gonna say but not what expected from Dune. Laughing ;D ;D

;D. I hear ya! I have such a nasal twang you should see some of my audio electronic search results. I am like...."say what?????"
Love the scene, but I'd wager those oxen wouldn't cooperate enough to make perfectly straight lines. I would throw in some "mis-steps" :)
Very nice scene. Beautiful light and clouds! :)
I will, Dorian. Thanks guys.
