Title: Repairing the "poolduck-scene"
Post by: DocCharly65 on January 18, 2017, 07:11:32 AM
As I told I will spend this year mainly for "repairing" scenes.

One part is the morning scene at the pool.
Because the Vin Diesel scene with the bike, the Viper and the starting Battlestar Galactica Viper is in the afternoon at 3:00-4:00 pm, I had to change the sun's heading and elevation for a plausible morning. Also I had to change the bike.

Here some old/new renders

The view into the garden (though the new one looks less beautiful and a bit darker it's necessary):
Old                                      New

The "poolduck" (The duck benefits from the new sun position)
Old                                      New

The "swim ring scene" just didn't exist so far  :)
Focus on flower                 Focus on swim ring

Other re-renders and "Repairing the ...-scene" -posts will follow  :)

Good going, y had me going with pool ring, more commonly in Canada referred to as inner tubes heh heh

I know it's picky, but the upper part of the swim ring looks pretty wet compared
to the duck and other surfaces. Shouldn't that be dry as well, unless someone
used it recently, in which case there should be some puddles or wet footprints
around the pool.
Might be easily too picky, though.

I agree with Jochen. Half as wet or an altitude range fading into matt rubber?

Thanks :)

The swim ring had to go completely because I didn't like the simple torus look any more.

And I wanted a bit improvement on the floor and the walls too. First I had not any idea how to start but then I remembered my "abbey-render".
So after a busy weekend --- Here you are:  :)
Some slight dirt on the wall,  some puddles on the floor and a new swim ring from tubosquid with less but still visible reflections...

There will be some more pool house scenes, where I must re-render the animations becuse of the new swim ring... still shots will follow soon :)

Yeah, that's a nicer ring!

Yes indeed. :)

I agree, I like the flaccid [synonyms:soft, loose, flabby, slack, lax;] look...

I am watching this progress, liking all of it. I am struggling with that pool reflection now. I like the transparent water a lot though. I could never achieve these effects, and this may be critical to your scene, so just say "buzz off", LOL.

Thanks :)
And @ luvsmuzik:
Every month since I use TG3(/4) I think I will never achieve these effects - but some day I get it to work. I must admit that nothing would work without this forum and the kind help of it's members.

(The pool water is a single part of the whole object. I just deleted the original shader and replaced it by a (waveless) water shader with a following powerfractal.)

Today Let's see the next view that is concerned by the last changes.
The swim ring is obvious  :)
The slight impurities on the walls are only subtile because of the direct sunlight and anyway I didn't want a too rotten home for Vin Diesel  ;D
And I had to change the puddles position because in this view it's about 8 hours later. I think I'll do another little change: I want to have a puddle after someone has poured the Golden Privet on the right side of the entrance. Then I'll have to check if this change also works with the view to the bike when the boot steps into the scene...

But first the actual state of the new entrance scene:

Ok - I've got what I wanted :)

Just the puddle-update to the last:

Subtle, and very nice addition. You should slow the movie down, so all will be more visible than a fleeting glimpse. Well, maybe some slowed down 'highspeed camera recording' would be cool in particularly exciting scenes. Takes quite some frames though.

Thanks Ulco :)

You're absolute right. In the final film some scenes will be quiet and (I hope so) just a bit beautiful.

Cutting the teaser I somehow got the youtube-feaver: There it seems you can only be successful with material that is fast, ugly, cool, scary... mainly fast!  8) :o  I should not hunt for "clicks" and "likes"...
Additionally I had not enough sound and music material for slower cuts  ;D so some animations are running up to 2-4x speed...

I think I will cut a "quiet parts" teaser next - something like a remake of the older pool scenes, a bit from the two robots... let's see :)

Here is the test of the puddles in the boots at the bike animation... I think it's a bit better but the bigger improvement will be visible at the earliest, when the puddles change their look in the animation.

A similar "puddle"-test I'll do with the view, when the Galactica Viper starts in the background... Then I'll get my homeoffice warm again through much render-work  ;D

Is that a hazy chopper? I like that.

Getting better and better, and fun to explore.  8)
