Title: Scorched Pillars
Post by: AndyWelder on February 15, 2017, 10:13:06 AM
Made with TG3.  Not exactly in a sunny mood lately: Too much stress, too much things not working out as planned. It shows...

It's gonna get better....I see the sun trying to peek through.   :)

It seems like a lovely 'bad mood' to me. The rock shapes as foliage are fascinating, and the somber browns are back lit by a glorious sky. To my eye this is a very fine image.

Mason and I were seeing 'shapes' within the pillars, much as one sees shapes in clouds.
Perhaps this could be an updated Rorschach test?

" every cloud must have a silver lining" and the smile this image is bringing to this forum as it "smiles and lets the sun come shining through"

paraphrased from Melancholy Baby, by Robert B. Parker

I like it a lot...

I love this too. I do not know how you got the texture on those "trees" , "pillars", but it is GREAT!  Distant god rays are a WOW!

Thank you all for the praises. But you should know that, for me, a lot of the things that are appreciated most here, come randomly in fact, not by mere control. The god rays are a good example: From experience I know under which conditions they are likely to show, so I create these conditions from homemade presets. Then it's a matter of simply pushing the button for random cloud pattern seeds... :D
The same goes for the textures: Really, I have no clue at times what a certain shader/node is doing and how changing values will lead to what result. I tinker and watch what changes, draw my conclusions and continue working with that conclusion. And sometimes I come to the wrong conclusion... :-[ So don't ask me how I did things, it's a question I can not answer most of the times. If possible I will post a clip- or project file because one file says more than a thousand words, at least for me.

I agree Andy, that is what is fun with this creative program! Some things are constant, others have so many variables and that is where FUN comes in! I am thinking about your trees , (pillars) hmmm...black marbly sandy....would look great glossy....on and on...we ponder. :)
