Title: SDTS Terrain Data in Terragen 2?
Post by: sjefen on September 23, 2007, 06:28:38 PM
How do I import SDTS to Terragen 2?

On this page: http://data.geocomm.com/dem/demdownload.html (http://data.geocomm.com/dem/demdownload.html) it says: Please Click on a State to access DEM data...
So I do, and download what i want but it's not DEM data. It's SDTS data. How do I use SDTS data in Terragen 2?

3DEM should load it OK.

You may also find it easier getting data directly from the USGS.

Apart from being completely free you can download larger chunks of data in one file e.g. a 1° square of 10m data is delivered in 6 tiles, which beats downloading several smaller tiles from geocomm (and they charge for 10m downloads).

Thanks for that link bigben, but if I don't know where a specific place is..... how do I find it?
I'm not very good in geography ::)

or start at the top left and work your way down  ;)

But seriously.... google the place name to find it's coordinates, plug that into an online map and then use that map as a reference to finding it on the USGS site.  You can set extra display options in the "Display" block on the right of the interface. I use these to display common border, roads and topography to find my way around.

You can draw a rectangle to choose the area you want to view or download, or just find the coordinates of your feature and systematically get the surrounding data by plugging in numbers.
