Title: Witch King (WIP)
Post by: sjefen on October 05, 2007, 10:41:38 AM
I was searching the web for some free models the other day and came across this one. The Witch King from Lord of the rings.
I think it's a good model, but as you can se it has no textures. If someone want's to texture it I'll be very happy.

I think this was a good opportunity to test out Terragen 2's Global Illumination. It's a lot easyer to se how it works on grey or white models. I know this one is a little to dark to see, but I was trying to make it a little more interesting at the same time.

Hope you like it and remember: if you want to texture this model, just give me a sound ;)

That's pretty cool. Check out the attached (PoseRay) screenshot - it's a freebie model called 'Argonath'. I don't have a copy of the books handy so I can't verify that the name is right, but it's one of the massive statues at the point where our heroes leave the boats and the fellowship is trashed. This one actually has texture coordinates... but no textures. I can't remember where I found it, either, so if I were to do anything with it it'd be as a monotone monolith.

;D

That's a great model to. It would be nice if someone could texture these models. I think Terragen 2 could do amazing things with them.

EDIT: I think my model has texture coordinates to.

Ooh very nice, both models, yes please can I have links to these, or are they available on turbosquid.
Richard

Just confirmed both models are available on Turbosquid, just do a search for "lord of the ring".

Like I said, I can't remember where I found it!  :-\  I was thinking, too (it happens occasionally) - from the looks of it I think the Argonath model is split into two materials - the base rock and the statue itself. That's really all you need - you don't really even need textures for that one. I mean it's going to be carved from the native rock, right? You can create appropriate surface layers and apply them to the two groups; you don't need the original textures to produce something pretty reasonable.

The .3ds is about 18 MB. I don't have anything from an original download beyond the .3ds - no license or anything. I suppose I could be persuaded to covertly zip it up and email it out if anyone wants it badly enough.

;)   ;D

The witch king is available on turbosquid, but only in 3ds. and max. format.
My old teacher converted it to obj. for me.

I have textured the Witch King model from Turbo squid.  I am not sure I can upload it to Ashundar because of Copyright issues though I cannot find any readme file or agreement from Turbo Squid.  Let me know if you want it and and perhaps I can email it but its 10 MB zipped.

Nice work on the model. I like that path too; would you mind sharing the tgd?

Sure.  Here you go. Hope it's useful.  I made 2 changes since last posting it.

1. Removed Heightfield adjust shader which was used to adjusted height of path
2. Set Border blending of path image mask to 0.5 from 0

I couldn't upload here with all the images so I posted the file with images over at Ashundar.  Should be available once the file is approved.

Thank you very much Ogre. It looks good.
I'll have a look at it when I'm finished with my current project.
