Title: Stepped Terrain
Post by: mhaze on October 25, 2018, 06:11:03 PM
Finally managed to solve this problem! Solution in file sharing. Breaking up a standard terrain into steps without strata. No doubt others have found other solutions but it always gives me a big buzz when I manage it!

I never was much of a fan of the strata / outcrops shader: produced results that were too regularly spaced and horizontal to appear to be "natural".  Whatever you did here looks like it works much better!

Follows the terrain nicely. Well done, and congratulations on that achievement. I'm trying to take your work and make it more dynamic as far as inputs, but ran into another roadblock with multiples and altitude. xD

What's nice about this too is the end result is able to be further displaced/redirected without much anomaly.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a looping facility. Dividing up the terrain is the hard part.

I would suggest first stepping the greytones of a PF, then using that for displacement.

Tried that and got nowhere really but I'm sure it can be done.
