Title: Terragen 2, multithreaded for multi-core processors ?
Post by: closer2 on October 22, 2007, 08:44:47 AM
Terrgagen 2 multithreaded for multi-core machines ?

This may be an old question.  But I have this wonderful Intel QX6700 quad core machine that performance pegs to 25% when doing a Terragen 2 render.
(Only one core being used)...Would really be nice to use all 4 cores. (Or dual core for people with that)...

Hopefully this is still the plan for Terragen 2 release ?

This is what the programmers are working on, if I understand correctly.  Search for a post about multithreaded (or maybe 'multi-threaded').

there is a work around to this.....

since you have quad core....you can try splitting your scene into four cropped renders and open 4 instances of TG2 and render 4 different crop tile all at one.....

This is still a planned feature for the final release.

Thanks for the responses...

Yeah dhavalmistry, I thought about splitting up the scene into 4 with cropping,
then combining a final after.... A script to do this might be a good idea...

But I'll wait to see the released version...Hopefully multi-core support will happen.

Terrgagen 2, very cool app, but these render times are murder...
(esp if you want to do animation)...

You can run Terragen 2 four times at once, each rendering a different segment of an animation sequence. Then go into the task manager and set each processor's affinity to one for each instance of Terragen running. It's like a four computer renderfarm.
