Identical setup as the previous version except with GI enabled at 2/2. The grass looked better with less light, I'm thinking...
;)
Oh, and w/out GI took 16 hours, with took 48 on a comparable box.
I liked it without GI....but nice job tho....
Yeah... me too, I think. The ruins look better this way, but the atmosphere as a whole was cooler before. You know what might help, would be to use BigBens grass in the foreground instead of the built-in stuff. It has more detail up close.
yea that would be a good idea...since his grass has more dried up look.....goes with the scene.....
It might be just preference, but I'd like to see more around the pumpkin - like the surrounding foliage, though I'd only want to barely see it. Something I learned in black&white photography is how the human eye will compensate for light due to pupil fluctuation. In a picture we find a happy medium so the eye is tricked into thinking its pupil is doing the work. Picky, picky. I know. ::)
Actually, I tried to keep the ground aound the pumpkin bare - that cursed ground thing, you know? Yeah, slight tweaks to the GI-free version would be the best approach to improving it. It's tough to try to find the right balance between perfectly spooky vs too dark to see a thing.
So I think I'll make my next effort a village idiot milieu, and call it 'The Great Bumpkin'. What do you think? Huh? Huh?
;D
;D
Nah. I like it. It can't be Bumpkinsville.

I think both this render and the previous one look good - which one is better depends on what you want the grass to look like...
Harvey, I just looked at this with another monitor than the first I saw your picture and I must say I really do like it. It's clearer on this monitor and is just about perfect lighting for this context. Good job.
Mr Birdman... Outstanding. I love the lighting of the pumpkin. This is really nice
There something that bothers me about this picture. Either the pedestal the pumpkin is on is somewhat transparent... or the light bends around the corners. In real life there is no way a lightsource on the pedestal illuminates the sides like that.
There is a Lambert shader attached to the pedestal and it's translucency is cranked up to the maximum. There are also multiple light sources in and around the pumpkin.
