Hi all, long time no post. Been doing lots of things that aren't Terragen (wot, you mean there are things that aren't Terragen ??? )
Any road up... Here is my latest. Its a view of Scafell Pike from Bows Fell. I used BigBens terrain set for this (Ta Ben) and I used a photo from this site http://www.stridingedge.net/Wainwright%20Fells/M-Z/Scafell%20Pike.htm (http://www.stridingedge.net/Wainwright%20Fells/M-Z/Scafell%20Pike.htm) (4th one down the page) for inspiration. I wasn't trying to copy it, just do a similar thing. I am actually quite pleased with this. I did a bit of colour ballancing etc. in Corel Photopaint. I run a TFT and a CRT monitor on the same PC and I had to take an average darkness decision between the 2 cause this looks a bit dark on the CRT, but a bit under contrasted on the TFT. Bear with me on this as I am trying a few things to sort this.
Anyway, the scene took about 20 hours work to get ready and it took about 180 hours to render @ 1024 x 768, quality 1, lots of quality on the atmosphere and clouds... this was rendered on my ageing 2 x 1 GHZ PIII with 512 MB RAM cause it let me get on with real work :-) on my work PC.
I will update this in a few days, I hope. Hope you enjoy

Beautiful, but 180hrs?
Great image (love the colors of the ground, especially) but yeah... 180? You probably didn't need to pump the atmosphere and clouds *that* much ;).
love it....nice work..
i am not a fan of the clouds... but the terrain and the surfaces are great ^^
It's all very nice, though the fading of the scene by the bright light on the left seems to take away from the scene. Maybe part of that is that we're up so high. Like your terrain from this height, though. :)
walked here many times on days just like this, great work
Looks nice, guy! :)
Thanks all...
Kevin F and Old Blaggard, yeah 180 odd hours.... it was on an old twin PIII though and it did only have 512MB ram... and the atmo was still grainy at 64 so...
seth93, The clouds looked good at a lot lower quality test render so I went with them. The slowness of the rendering of T2 stopped me stopping the render after the clouds had finished :'( and I didn't have the will power left to start mucking about with them again. I may redo them at a later date..
calico, it is quite bright in the top left, I agree. This is due mainly to the over darkening of the ground by the afore mentioned clouds, and me having to do a bit of exposure tweaking in photopaint. It's my one major criticism of TG2 (though its more likely down to my failings as a TG2 user ;D ), that the clouds seem to cast VERY dark shadows on the ground, especially if you want quite solid looking clouds.
mhaze, never been to that area, though seen it on the telly and photos, really should go sometime, its only a few hours in the car, and it does look very beautiful

Horses!! Should send her here. Nearly everyone here has at least a couple. Everyone except us. We have cats. Gotta be different, know what I mean? ;D
re the avatar - I'm waiting for a letter from the Cartoon Network lawyers telling me I'm gonna get sued.. :D
The terrain and textures are very nice. I like it a lot. Good job.
Awesome- was up there a few months ago. You've captured The Lakes very well.
