Title: Desert Depths
Post by: Sethren on November 16, 2007, 02:51:23 AM
Another example of GeoControl's shaders and terrains, this time with high sedimentation from two perspectives.

I hope Cajomi releases GeoControl 2 soon to public testing so you all can do these nifty things.     ;D

This looks pretty cool. I just went to the Geocontrol site and on the forum there is a thread where Criss has rendered some huge Geocontrol terrains in Modo. The beauty of this is that you see their basic forms very well. They look quite impressive.

Criss and I are one and the same.   ;D    I have a bad habit of choosing to many alias' at times. Using the Modo 203 demo i had stowed away for some time, i thought i would install it and test it's displacement shaders and to my surprise they are spectacular and very low on memory/resources. These were 4096 terrain displacement maps to. The sharp clarity in Terragen 2 is something i have a very hard time getting were as it was easy to have that in Modo 203 but i must say Modo's shaders are a PITA. I could have taken those terrains a whole lot farther with painted 3d meshes for flora and a complete sky dome HDRI backround. Might i add Modo is a frekin' fast GI renderer.

I never knew it was you.

I have Modo but haven't upgraded to 301 yet. It's supposed to be faster again. the renderer is amazingly fast. I guess that will be especially cool when they finally get around to adding more animation features.

One of these days i might take the time out to learn Modo but more then anything i was curious to see how it handled 16bit grey scale maps for displacements. I might buy it to tinker with it. Digital painting/drawing various media seems to be more my interest. This terrain thing is more for the love of Geology and how software can mimic these things.

Also the color maps in Modo 201 were of the same color gradient maps that i had made and use in GeoControl as well.
