After I saw Beep's aerial images I wanted to do one as well.
On Sketchfab I found a model of the city Lviv, Ukraine
https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/map-lviv-ukraine-4df5f2ce0d9040ad91939073dea66243
I created some hi res color maps and distribution maps for it, and added a lot of stuff. I also found a nice free F 14 Tomcat on Cadnav.
There's really a lot of stuff in that image, so it takes a while to load the scene, but TG handles it perfectly.
Cool.
Fantastic!
Great work.
Are the trees part of the original model or separate populations?
Very cool. So much detail. Are the jet exhausts card objects?
Just checked the link. Page says the model has only 1.2M triangles. Interesting. And in the comments, the author provides a step-by-step for creating other cities. Hmm . . .
Thank you for sharing, Hannes.
It must have been a hell of a lot of work to texture all the details.
But the result looks great! :)
8) Great texturing and distribution work. Well done.
Woow! great render Hannes! must have took a lot of work texturing all that(?
Excellent. I have tweeted the tweet and booked the face on this one!
Thanks to you all!!!!
Richard, the trees are separate populations.
Steve, yes, the jet exhausts are (imported) card objects.
Ariel, oh yes, a lot of work!
And Matt, thanks a lot!!!!
:) :) :) :) :)
Oh wow that's a great result. I actually thought this was a substance designer material cause of that stadium that shows up frequently in it.
Really cool!

There's only one stadium in the scene, and it's an imported model. Or do you mean a specific substance designer material with stadiums?
Excellent work Hannes, your image looks very detailed and crisp!

I remember that last years I worked with QGIS (Q Geo Information System). This software is free and you can download OSM Data as well with this fine peace of software.
I tried it and I did so with Koblenz. Then I was really surprised in which detail every building, all the streets were imported into QGIS. It takes some time to start creating your
own maps, but for free it's an excellent software.
Here you can download very detailed maps for all of germany for QGIS (with OMS importer).

So maybe you will be able to create your own surrounding with it if you like?

Yeah there is a substance designer city material that went around for awhile that was pretty popular. The stadium reminded me of it. Can't seem to find any example of it being used anymore outside a sphere though.
Ah, I see. Thanks for showing it.
