Title: This is Blender?!

"All the CG stuff in this video is blender's realtime eevee engine, which has just been a blast)."

Looks like we don't need real world for movies anymore.

I wonder how heavy all the assets are combined. Eight hundred zettabytes...? And to think I get scared when exceeding 200mb per one. ::)

Well, so do I, but we're not a huge company ;)

The company behind this isn't what you'd call a huge company, either. The thing is that technology that was owned by big studios a few decades ago is now available to everyone, and free of charge in the case of Blender. So anyone with talent and perseverance can basically produce Hollywood quality. Now big studios will always be able to invest more money in new technology, but how long can you keep this up? I mean, if something is perfect, you can't improve it even though you have all the money in the world.

Good point. And it is a very healthy sign if you ask me. Creativity should not be "enabled" by money.

I was just wondering how big the .blend file had to be to load all this and run smoothly. This is the only part where money can indeed come in handy, be it in the form of RAM or CPU cores.
:D

You're right, René. But indeed, usually bigger companies can afford bigger machinery, and more and better assets. And have more brainpower to make something worthwhile within decent time. Not counting Nils, of course ;D

Before the computer entered the world of the arts, it was not at all strange that one person created something of eternal beauty. I have yet to see that in the digital domain... :D

Amazing. May have to give Blender another look but it sounds like the person behind this has been at it for years. It's not just the tools, it's how you use them . . .

It's interesting, though, how 40 years on Ridley Scott's vision is still driving so many of our sci-fi environments.

It's interesting how it's evolved, but yet remained the same at the heart. For example, with Ridley Scott it was the idea of holograms, and the neon lights so popular. Now, it's LED lights of any neon colour, giant vibrant screens, and realistic holograms based off the technology we've actually developed. It's like a singularity in itself. Hypothetical visions fueling innovation, fueling further hypothetical visions.

Maybe not the place to ask, but does Terragen have the ability to add an animation panel to relay video? Like when you can add a live feed with a link. I know Doc uses a lot of tricks in his space videos, but I have not seen a live feed, have I? I caught the image of the astronauts joining the others at the ISS yesterday with a screen grab. Kind of frustrating that it took so long to get the microphones going, but giant leaps take time...heh.

I don't think so. You'd probably be using a image map shader on a card or something and iterating frames. Than in post adding soundtrack to said video frames.
